travel.

Booking Restriction
If you
book (or change) your outbound
award travel date within 21
days of the departure (or original
booking date), a $ 75
award processing fee will apply, provided the new date is valid for the original
award type claimed
Please note:
award tickets for wholly intra-Japan
award travel on ANA can not be
booked until 60
days prior to departure but must be
booked at least 4
days prior to departure.
A few rules do exist so that you don't automatically
book these
awards in place of the new
award chart:
travel must always progress in one direction, either east or west, and you can't return to your origin within 10
days.
You'll pay an extra $ 75 to
book award travel less than 21
days out on American or US Airways, but nothing for
booking late with Avios (note that Alaska also doesn't charge for close - in
bookings).
There are three important caveats: (1)
travel must include a Saturday night stay, (2) an advance purchase requirement of 21
days is in place, and (3)
award travel must be
booked as a round trip.
Since
award space is
booked in a special class of service, it may not be available on all flights or on all
days of the week when you choose to
travel.
$ 75 close - in ticketing fee — American charges $ 75 per ticket when you
book that
travel within 21
days of departure, but that's often when some of the best
award space appears.
21 March 2016 will be the last
day to
book award travel with AAdvantage Miles before the cost of those
awards increases... in some cases by over 40 %.
I was having a normal Valentine's
Day night trying to use points for flights and it quickly turned into issues
booking award travel with Chase and British Airways.
This means that, as the last
day to
book award travel at the non-devalued rates will be 21 March 2016, the last date available to physically
travel at the non-devalued rates will be 331
days from then — 5 March 2017.
While the benefits are minimal, they do include an extended window to
book awards — from 30

However, one important thing to note for last - minute
award bookers, British Airways doesn't charge last - minute ticketing fees, whereas American charges non-elite members $ 75 for
awards booked within 21
days of
travel.
I fear all the legacies will be going to a revenue - based system in the coming years and MileagePlus will one
day add fuel surcharges to redemptions, but right now United's
award charts, Star Alliance partners, generous routing rules, lack of fuel surcharges, and ability to quickly and easily
book more
award travel online makes it a program much better than even AAdvantage in terms of
award redemption.

award travel 338
days out, do I have to try to
book my outbound on one
day (
day 338) and my return on another
day (338 — 10 or -14
days) depending on how long I want to stay?
Every
day you can
book a
day further into the future, so if you want to
travel over Christmas and New Year, your return flight should be bookable very soon, and I expect excellent
award space with Delta miles on Virgin Australia.
Most airlines allow
award bookings around 330
days in advance, so you'll soon be able to make reservations for Thanksgiving 2018
travel, and you can already
book for other major holidays and
travel periods earlier in the year.
His strategy is to
book award travel in economy and business class well in advance, and then a
day or so before the flight, call in to redeem the additional miles to move up to first class.
So I suppose you can say that elite status will be more valuable on United when it comes to
booking award travel, but none of us should be comforted by the addition of more consumer fees: especially in light of the fact that an
