film is a triumph, almost a masterpiece, at least for its time, remaining, to this
day, a marvel whose style and technical proficiency compliment entertainment value and immerse you into a distinguished world and story.
The
film makes use of some kick - ass cinematography (colorful imagery of the summer, and a picture that reflects childhood innocence), while the story sheds light on poverty, and the bad things that
come along with it, and how it affects childhood, and for me, that is what pop culture nowadays would describe as «woke», because not a lot of
films these
days shed light on those important issues.
Finally, the
film looks like its literally
come out an immature five year old who was
day dreaming about the latest
film he saw, ots so unbelievably bad that when i was young i
came up with better dialogue and story.
Gillespie smartly uses the known and builds upon it with context and some style, using «modern
day» Tonya, Jeff and LaVona among others as interview subjects for a documentary of sorts that frames the
film, but also has the characters speak into the camera in non-interview segments to help give Tonya some humanity, or at least make sure you have a better idea about all of her story and life
coming out and you did going in.
