I'd like to add to that the idea that as a Christian we may be tempted to flee
day to
day problems by imagining that God will lift us out
of it all, or
prayer will
make it go away.
A National
Day of Prayer is (1) for non-believers, an absurd and pointless pursuit
of mass delusion, and (2) for Christians, a loving, usually unselfish, request
made of a Supreme Being.

For a long time the Temple in Jerusalem was actually a sacred place, it even was the most sacred place on earth, because the God
of Israel had promised, to be present at the Temple (1 Kings 8, 29: That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and

I'm not sure how that relates to the topic anymore, except thinking about the praying morning and evening and table
prayers, brought down through the generations,
makes me think
of my parents and grandparents who taught them to us and prayed them with us, diligently and who certainly would be hurt by our going from them to a thousand Hare Krishna's every
day.

makes his very important decision
of picking the twelve apostles, rather than get a good night
of sleep, He spends all night in
prayer.
If everyone
made prayer apart
of their
day, not just on a national
day of prayer, this world would be a much better place.
Makes you wonder why they're so insecure about their god that they need a national

of one who owed a complete surrender to God, who could never be
of himself worthy
of the sovereign creator, but who had in fact been saved and justified by the Word
of God,
