Creditor harassment and
debt collectors make ridiculous threats to get you to pay.
For instance, if
debt collectors make harassing calls at imprudent hours or lie to you claiming or threatening to do something they are not legally entitled to do, you can contact an attorney and take legal action against them in order to cease the illegal practice and get compensation for damages and any legal fees you may have incurred in.
For the most part, the TCPA comes into play when
debt collectors make collection calls to consumer cell phones.
According to the CFPB report,
debt collectors make $ 40 for every $ 1 they collect, so their focus is on getting borrowers to make payments, not to help them fix the situation.
Take a stand against the onslaught of creditors and
debt collectors making life harder than it needs to be.
If
a debt collector makes impermissible robocalls to a consumer's cell phone, the debt collector is liable for $ 500 per call.
Many of the debts that involve
debt collectors making harassing phone calls are actually low priority debts that should be paid when the above expenses have been taken care of.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau passed a rule allowing it to regulate
debt collectors making more than $ 10 million annually — including lawyers.

collectors who gradually became independent creditors by the wealth they

The Treasury is taking responsibility for
making bad lenders and bad investors whole, but leaving bad
debts and even Negative Equity on the books and even putting the government in the position of «
debt collector of last resort.»
Contact your servicer or
debt collector immediately to learn more about your options and to
make arrangements to bring your loan out of default.
For borrowers contacted by a
debt collector about very old
debt (generally
debt you have not
made any payments toward for two years or longer, depending on your state), you may be able to challenge a lawsuit from a
debt collector on these grounds.
When negotiating with your
debt collector, the law requires your
collector to determine your payment amount based on your income; however, once you agree to a payment plan, you are required to
make your monthly payment in order to rehabilitate your defaulted loan.
The government is now to take on the roll of
debt collector to «
make a profit for taxpayers» by going around and kneecapping the economy — which of course is comprised primarily of the «taxpayers» ostensibly being helped.
The Mayor also proposed a plan for City Council to grant the city the power to sell Emergency Repair Program liens that exist on a property to a third party
collector (see video above), who would then be in charge of collecting on the
debt — saving taxpayer money from footing the bills for emergency repairs and possibly giving landlords more incentive to
make repairs themselves.
It was funny, of course, but it also pointed to the fact that Brown seemed to be the only person in Britain (excepting
debt collectors) who was enjoying the worst recession in the developed world - a point
made musically by this ConHome video.

make dealing with
debt collectors easier and a little less stressful.

Remember that sending a letter to a
debt collector does not
make the money owed to them go away.
If you reveal that you've
made a big purchase or received your tax refund, the
collector may assume you can afford to pay your
debt in full.
When you're dealing with creditors and
debt collectors, it's often better to
make your requests and statements in writing.
Once a dispute is
made, the credit bureau gives the
debt collector 30 days to verify the
debt.
If the
debt collector threatens or harasses you,
make a note of it.
When you
make a
debt validation request, you're asking the
debt collector to send proof that the
debt is yours and that they're authorized by the original creditor to collect that
debt from you.
But I've
made it easy for you to get smart and know when and how to fight back against
debt collectors.
I suggest how best to communicate with a
debt collector, and I detail illegal
debt collection tactics and
make it easy for you to recognize when you're being victimized.
Ignoring a
debt collector doesn't
make them go away.
Sometimes
debt collectors try to have you promise to
make a payment before the statute of limitations runs out.
Along the way, I must admit I
made mistakes, like naively talking on the phone to
debt collectors.
Three years ago, I told you the FTC and New York Attorney General (NY AG) announced complaints against
debt collectors that allegedly used a slew of abusive and deceptive tactics to pressure consumers into
making payments on questionable
debts.
If a
debt collector tries to collect money on a
debt you have never heard of (or a
debt you are unsure of), do your due diligence before
making any payment arrangements.
Harassment and Abuse Is Prohibited The law
makes it illegal for
debt collectors to harass or abuse you.
They will stop
making any kind of payments and soon the
debt collectors are incessantly calling with threats of legal action.
A
debt collector must comply with a request to stop calling you once you
make an oral or written request.
Some will even contact a
debt collector directly, on your behalf, once a complaint has been
made.
If
debt collectors are calling your family members asking for payment on loans,
make sure the collection agency or creditor knows you are serving time.
By law a
debt collector must stop calling you at home and work once you
make the request in writing.

debt collector violates the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in any way, you might be entitled to recover actual damages and / or statutory damages up to $ 1,000, as well as court costs and attorney fees, and — most important of all — make them stop calling
