ALBANY — A proposed compromise on the deductibility of state and
local taxes has split Republicans in New York's congressional
delegation along regional lines, and House GOP leaders believe it will help them move their overall tax
bill forward.
«Given the small margin by which the original
bill passed in the House, if every member of the New York
delegation — Democrat and Republican — would say they're not voting for any
bill that cuts state and
local deductibility, that
bill would fail.»
«We need every member of the New York
delegation, Democrat and Republican, to come out and say they will vote against any
bill that cuts state and
local deductibility,» Schumer said in a conference call with reporters.
Business Council President and CEO Heather Briccetti urged the state congressional
delegation to «fight to ensure the final
bill keeps (the state and
local tax deduction) in place, while at the same time making much - needed reforms to our nation's antiquated tax code.»
