Describe the symptoms and understand the
differential diagnosis of prenatal and postpartum
depression, anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, PTSD, bipolar disorders and psychosis.
Several common childhood psychiatric conditions have features similar to those
of conduct disorder, and comorbid conditions are also common.11 The
differential diagnosis should include attention - deficit / hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), oppositional defiant disorder, mood disorder (major
depression, dysthymia, bipolar disorder), substance abuse and intermittent explosive disorder (Table 2).
Students will gain knowledge
of specific strategies for screening, assessment, and treatment
of elders, including attention to: situational concerns such a loss, grief and social isolation; issues
of trauma and elder care;
differential diagnosis of new vs. existing conditions; symptoms related to dementia and Alzheimer's; mental health issues related to
depression, mental illness and changes in executive function; substance use issues, including interactions with medications, and other related medical conditions.
