I followed the recipe exactly using weights on a
kitchen scale (honestly I do it to
dirty less dishes, as I
just plop the mixing bowl onto the scale and scoop in, taring for each new ingredient) and following instructions.
I cursed each and every one of them, and also the product designers who had clearly never heard of
kitchens that didn't have dishwashers, every time I washed each of them; half the crevices are unreachable with a soapy sponge) and there was no way I was going to
dirty a food processor (
just so it could cut butter for me), bowl and spatula when I could do the whole job with
just a pastry blender, big bowl and optional spoon.
Thus, our tiny apartment
kitchen was littered with eggs and spilled sausage grease, and
just about every pan in the place was
dirty.
If you're like me, you like to bake
just as long as you can get in and out of the
kitchen in under an hour and without completely
dirtying every bowl and measuring cup and spoon you own.
And this method achieves
just that, keeping the kernels in tidy planks and
dirtying minimal dishes, all without kernels flying across your
kitchen.
I sometimes very often find myself standing in the middle of my
kitchen just staring at the overflowing sink full of
dirty dishes and wonder, How?
