To MerryMumma, your ambition is admirable, but you may have made afew mistakes, one being leaving
dish soap residue on the inside of your jars.
Martha, rinse jars well to remove
all dish soap residue, then give them a final rinse with distilled white vinegar.
Dish soap residue and metal will sabotage your fermenting efforts.

Other methods call for the use of vinegar to remove
residues or using
dish soap to scrub out oils that repel moisture.
Always use a brush to wash bottles by hand in non-chlorinated water with special
dish liquid that can be used for babies or
soaps that are designed to avoid leaving
soap residue behind.
Rinse them first in cool water to remove any milk
residue that may be on them and then wash them in warm, soapy water with a chemical free
dish soap.
Note: If you have always used commercial window cleaner in the past, mix a couple drops of liquid castile
soap or liquid
