Display yield issues tend to be viewed as the culprit, but what exactly is happening?

Almost every other
display maker is currently struggling with their OLED production facility or
yield issues and are incapable of supplying Apple with OLED panels in decent numbers.
While the company has been looking for OLED suppliers, it has not met with much success as other
display makers like LG, Sharp, and JDI are still struggling with poor
yield issues in their OLED factories.
Apple's also rumored to release an even bigger iPhone 6 with a 5.5 - inch
display, but its release is reportedly pushed back due to
yield issues.
While Apple seemed to have
issues with producing G / F2
displays on a mass scale for the iPad mini,
display manufacturers have now improved
yield rates and are expected to ship 4 - 5 million units a month.
One
issue that needs to be addressed is the production of the curved glass
display, the
yield of which is said to have dropped way below 50 percent.
Samsung's manufacturing partners had
issues producing the curved glass
display feature, and the
yield for the glass
displays dropped lower than 50 percent.
