I am looking at getting a Magimix and am trying to find out about whether the plastic used for the bowl is safe as one does hear about plastic leaching.
It's significantly cheaper than a Magimix, retailing at about # 70, however this does mean that it's not as strong but it's very resilient and a great place to start.

Sadly I don't have the exact wattage but I use the 5200 XL Magimix which works perfectly for my recipes, and so does the slightly smaller version!

Do you know whether there is a huge different in terms of power between the Magimix processors and what can be made with the Magimix 3200 (650W), the 4200XL (950W) and the 5200XL (1100W).
You do have to really leave the magimix running for a long time, about 15minutes as Ella says in her book — I just made the butter and at first it was breadcrumby but eventually went really smooth.
One advantage it does have over the Magimix though, is it comes with built in scales, which is pretty handy.

Yes they do tend to work well, although I always use my 5200XL Magimix as I'm recipe testing almost every day!
