Between medical
expenses and
boarding fees (and of course ordinary
expenses like food, supplies, etc.), we typically spend over $ 1000 on each
dog we rescue — not to mention the
dogs whose surgeries cost many times that.
We rely strictly on adoption fees and donations to cover the costs associated with rescuing
dogs from the shelters (we pay them an adoption fee), veterinary
expenses,
dog food and supplies, telephone and gas bills,
boarding and all other
expenses incurred while providing for the
dogs in our care.
Many go to the
expense of having their
dogs fully vaccinated (depending on the age of the
dogs being released to the new owner) and are often micro chipped and have had their eyes checked for juvenile eye problems by a
Board Certified Canine Ophthalmologist before they are sold; another effort to offering healthy
dogs and being able to keep track of the
dogs they sell.

So we
board those
dogs at our own
expense — an
expense that costs us hundreds of dollars each month.
Fostering a homeless
dog can be profoundly rewarding, while assisting the rescue by eliminating costly
boarding kennel
expenses.
In urgent need cases, where no foster homes are available, we will
board the
dogs to save them, but with
boarding costs and other
expenses, we can only save as many as we have foster homes available.
Standard Adoption Fees A scaled adoption fee, based on the
dog's age, is used to help defray
expenses for vet bills, supplies, training and ocassionally
boarding.
Please understand that this money reimburses us (often only partially) for the veterinary,
boarding, and daily living
expenses for our
dogs.
Northwind Kennels kindly gave us a discount on
boarding fees, but with 40
dogs living at the facility the cost has been huge at $ 11,000 per month ($ 10 per
dog, per day) which at this time is an
expense that we certainly are not prepared for in our already tight budgets.

dog,
boarding, food, micro chipping and behavioral evaluation.
