pool and how to get out; coming when called and getting out of the water on command; and how to calmly swim and not panic.

And if the supervisor leaves the
pool area, the
dog needs to be out of the water and out of the

dog somehow endangers another person or animal in the
pool, then someone
needs to be able to jump in and save that person or animal.
So, someone
needs to be assigned to be a
dog's supervisor when the
dog is allowed into the
pool area.
Above ground
pools have ladders that
dogs can climb, so those
need to either be removable or somehow enclosed so the
dog can't get in the
pool without anyone knowing.
Just like kids
need to be taught that running games on and around water are unsafe, so should your guests be informed that it is dangerous to get a
dog too excited and running around the
pool area.
On the other hand, if you want to allow your
dog to swim in the
pool, obviously you
need a
pool that is large enough.
There's nothing nicer than having a nice paddling
pool for your
dog to play in and cool off when
needed.
We will teach your
dog how to find the stairs (they
need to know where they can exit safely) and that the side of the
pool is not a way out.
As more and more
dogs are saved by the city shelter and the community, the
pool of
dogs still in
need gets more and more narrow and eventually is mostly comprised of adult (or teenager) large breed
dogs with generally poor manners and a lot of energy.

dog can get a bath, a bit of exercise in our
pool or on a treadmill, or some extra TLC all while you're at work!

dog's skin, so if you take your Yorkie to swim in a
pool you will
need to bathe him too.

dogs» in
need of behavioral rehabilitation, I don't see the harm in
pooling resources to save ONE of these
dogs instead of brushing their
needs off on the basis of «we don't have the resources to save them so we'll wait until we do to save them in masses.»
(All responsible breeders carefully place their
dogs in new homes, but breeders of rare breeds are even more finicky about where their pups go because they are guardians of a small gene
pool and
need to make sure that all breedable
dogs are kept intact and that buyers understand the consequences of owning a pet that is also the repository of genes from that limited
pool.)
If you want your
dog to be able to reproduce among the registry, your
dog will
need to have a working title like protection
dog or seeing eye
dog, as well as certain measurement minimums for their hips and elbows before it's allowed to contribute to the gene
pool.
The point is that you will
need to train your
dog to follow your commands so you can help ensure its safety even in a shallow
pool.
If there is a hot tub or
pool on the property, a cover or barrier is
needed to prevent the
dog falling in and drowning.
