But sadly, each year
rescue groups take
in many of these charming little
dogs — some because they have been overbred
in puppy mills, some because owners failed to
do their homework or made an impulse purchase.

This is one reason why
Rescue has so many male Black Russians — people don't realize the necessity of manners
in a
dog this big and with this much guard instinct.
Even people like Nathan Winograd have seen firsthand the difficulties
in finding a
rescue dog when he was denied because he
did not have a doggie door.
For almost 14.5 years I have had 2
dogs that we adopted
in 2001 from our local SPCA — back then I
did not even know «
rescues» existed.

dogs, or just about anything you care to train them to
do.
And while we would love to place every
dog in a foster home until it's adopted, we don't have enough foster homes to care for the
dogs we want to
rescue, so we incur substantial boarding fees for many of our
dogs.
