Duo service, and, notably, play YouTube
videos — potentially a big selling point for these devices, given Google recently yanked
support for YouTube from Amazon Echo and Fire TV devices.
Following the release of Google
Duo for cross-platform
video calls on mobile earlier this week, it's now come to light that the app will soon be updated to
support audio
calls.
Interestingly, this announcement isn't purely about
Duo — Google has also included so -
called ViLTE (or,
video over LTE)
support.
So if you're
calling on mobile data between two phones on carriers that
support the ViLTE standard, the
video will be carried over that rather than
Duo.
There's built - in
support for Knock - Knock and a new
Video calls menu that'll allow users to sign into, sign out of, or unlink a
Duo account.
The search engine giant expounded that Google Allo would be an AI -
supported mobile messaging platform while
Duo would focus on
video calling.
