The upcoming 2018 Dacia
Duster SUV is being said to be the most budget friendly cars in recent times from the automobile brand.
Dacia announced an updated version of
its Duster SUV, the cheapest new car in its segment, to be launched in Europe next year.
Renault has launched its new
Duster SUV in New Delhi at a base ex-showroom price of Rs 7.19 lakh for the 1.6 - litre petrol, Rs 7.99 lakh for the 85PS diesel and Rs 9.99 lakh for the 105PS diesel engines.
Renault India will be launching a new version of
the Duster SUV in the Indian market, Duster Petrol CVT.
The compact SUV will go on sale in India as the company's flagship model and it will be slotted above the popular
Duster SUV.
While Renault India may be flying in glory courtesy of the best selling
Duster SUV, the company's lesser - known products are seeing equally difficult days to be pushed out of showrooms.
The Renault Captur is a premium SUV from French manufacturer Renault positioned above its popular
Duster SUV.

Not exact matches
The Toyota Fortuner offers an average of 85 per cent return in 3 years, whereas
SUVs / MUVs such as the Renault
Duster, Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra Xylo offer between 72 - 76 per cent.
Following the all - new Dacia
Duster's world debut at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, Renault has put its badge on the budget
SUV as well.
Unlike the Dacia model, the
SUV also gets remote engine start — a useful feature in cold regions such as Russia where the
Duster is sold as a Renault.
While I can't argue with the
Duster's value for money, I have a beef with Renault because it doesn't allow the budget
SUV to be as good as it could.
Though it is ageing and an updated model is likely to be launched by 2019, the
Duster still holds its ground as the most uniquely packaged
SUV in its segment.
It's reasonably refined and quiet for a budget
SUV (even heard from the outside), but it fails to make the
Duster a quick car.
The compact
SUV will take on the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Renault
Duster and the new Maruti Vitara Brezza.
While India's largest car maker is yet to put its compact
SUV on the roads, Nissan took a leaf out of Renault's books by badge engineering the
Duster, re-naming it as the Terrano.
Based on the
Duster's M0 platform, the new
SUV looks similar to the European model which is based on Renault Clio's platform.
In the compact
SUV segment Nissan Terrano takes on the likes of French sibling Renault
Duster, Hyundai Creta and Maruti S - Cross.
Volkswagen is readying up the T - Cross compact
SUV to take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Renault
Duster, Jeep Renegade and the likes.
It would make the
Duster a much better
SUV, no doubt about it.
However if you want a diesel
SUV which never feels out of breath on the highways, the
Duster / Terrano 110 PS is worth considering.
Equipped with the right set of tires, the
Duster is a competent off - roader — certainly more capable than any other
SUV of this size and price.
Unfortunately, the lack of structural changes to the budget
SUV and the more severe Euro NCAP tests have resulted in a three - star rating for the new
Duster.
The top speed of 169 km / h isn't impressive either, but let's not forget the
Duster's target group: people who want a dependable and rugged
SUV with low running costs and an affordable purchase price.

Duster and Nissan Terrano are three compact
SUVs which are very popular but which one should you buy?
The ZS is MG's compact

However, the UK buyers aren't too happy with their

SUV with its macho looks the Creta looks at home in the urban environment.

Duster and comes across as a relatively premium product.
This newly launched
SUV is going to compete against the likes of Renault
Duster, Nissan Terrano, Mahindra XUV 500 and others in this segment.
That said, there are better - specced alternatives, such as the Mahindra Scorpio or even compact
SUVs such as the Renault
Duster and the Hyundai Creta that are priced on par.
The capable
Duster gets a number of accessories to make the
SUV look more rugged showcasing its off - road prowess.
While the new - gen
Duster retains its proportions and overall dimensions, the slightly wider track, a more prominent radiator grille, and bigger wheel arches give the Compact
SUV some much needed muscle, something that its predecessor lacked.
Now given the success of the Renault
Duster in India and the strong
SUV trend, it's likely that the company might bring the car to India to showcase at the 2018 Delhi Auto Expo and we won't be surprised if Renault launches the car in the next year itself.
This isn't the first time Renault has brought out a special edition of its hot selling
Duster, last year the company launched the
Duster Anniversary Edition to celebrate one year of launch of this compact
SUV.
The
Duster is visually bigger than the EcoSport and looks more an
SUV, thanks to its wider body and massively flared wheel arches.
The Renault
Duster pretty much kick - started the compact
SUV segment in India when it arrived in 2012 and is currently the automaker's second most - selling offering in the country.
The Urban
SUV will compete with the likes of Nissan Terrano, Ford EcoSport, Renault
Duster and upcoming Maruti Suzuki XA Alpha.
When launched, the compact
SUV will be locking horns with the Hyundai ix25, Renault
Duster, Nissan Terrano, Maruti S - Cross and the likes in the segment.
Although, two other two rivals - the Renault
Duster and the Nissan Terrano will appeal more to those who are looking for a muscular looking
SUV.
The
SUV traits of the Nexon are ground clearance, which at 209 mm is comparable with the Renault
Duster, and large 16 - inch wheels.
Ford Ecosport, which is a sub four - metre
SUV, will be priced aggressively and is a potential threat to Renault's
Duster.
Ever since Renault brought in the
Duster at an affordable price, several car manufacturers have introduced compact
SUVs into the Indian market.
