During today's Nintendo Direct E3 presentation the prolific publisher announced a new 3D Mario
game from
EAD Tokyo — the team responsible for the stellar Super Mario Galaxy titles — in the form of Super Mario 3D World.
Luckily Nintendo
EAD and Grezzo made the smart decision to port and update one of the greatest Zelda
games to the 3DS so people, like myself, can properly experience it for the first time.
It probably wont surprise you that it was developed by Gunpei Yokoi's R&D 1 instead of Miyamoto's
EAD team, but when Yokoi's crew worked on the sequel subtitled 6 Golden Coins, they decided to take some cues from
games like Mario 3, and created a
game that was more familiar, yet still had a unique feel.
It was still an
EAD - developed side - scroller, and why it wasn't always a Mario
game is really beyond me anyway.

game music while overseeing his employee's scores for the Wii and DS.
Given the Famicom had become highly popular in Japan, Kondo was assigned to exclusively compose for the console's subsequent
games at the company's new development team Nintendo
EAD.
While its more recent output has been (admittedly very well done) remakes of previously popular Nintendo
games like Ocarina Of Time, the
EAD Tokyo team still carries a lot of expectation after producing Super Mario Galaxy.
Nintendo
EAD, the
game's closeted, Tokyo - based crack team of inventors may have retreated from the buckshot heavens once explored in the Wii's Super Mario Galaxy titles, settling once again on terra firma (even if, predictably enough, it's often covered in ice or lava)-- but what a world.
This manifests innocently in the Land / World naming conventions (though, sadly «Land»
games also used to connote Nintendo R&D 1 weirdness, but now they're largely more of the same old
EAD stuff).
As great as Super Mario 3D World is, Nintendo's devs at
EAD Tokyo have never done better than this
game.
