I just
made these vegan using
earth balance instead of butter, 2 tbs ground flax mixed with 3 tbs water for egg, and dairy free chocolate chips (no white chocolate chips).
I have a friend that
made it with almond milk instead of regular milk and
Earth Balance instead of butter.

Hi Rob — Sometimes I think discussions about this can get incredibly heated, and I think each to his own, but the devastation a lot of palm oil causes to rainforests and the animals who live there
make a lot of vegans want to choose to go without — I think I have read somewhere that
earth balance use sustainable palm oil — not grown in the rainforests, some people find it easier to avoid palm oil all together as it can be hard to check where it is from with each product.
For my allergies I
make the following changes: rice pasta, coconut milk instead of cream, GF flour blend,
earth balance instead of butter and GF breadcrumbs.
I haven't
made too many raw dishes but this looks very tempting, will give it a try after I shop for these somewhat new ingredients (I've never bought a goji berry before for example, and I haven't tried coconut butter either, just the normal
Earth Balance stuff.)

The only changes I
made were that I used
earth balance non-dairy original butter sticks, doubled the recipe, used 3 1/2 cups ground oats and 1 cup of a gluten free flour blend.
You might be happy to hear, then, that non-hydrogenated shortening exists (Spectrum and
Earth Balance are just two examples), and that Tofutti has actually been
making non-hydrogenated cream cheese and sour cream for years!
You can't
make pastry dough with
Earth Balance buttery sticks, as they simply have too much moisture.

made a LOT... more than the amount I get when I buy the
earth balance butter (but so much less expensive).

Earth Balance, it was delicious!

Dairy - free: I have successfully
made this recipe dairy - free by using
Earth Balance buttery sticks in place of unsalted butter (just reduce the salt by half) and non-dairy plain yogurt in place of yogurt.
To
make a simple caramel, melt together 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup
earth balance vegan butter, and up to 2 TBSP almond milk until the perfect consistency is reached.

made these, unveganized with an egg and butter instead of chia and
