Macmillan claims that its new model is meant to keep
retailers, publishers, and authors profitable in the emerging
electronic frontier while
encouraging competition amongst new devices and new stores.
But even though GameStop is one of the biggest
retailers making some hefty dough this way, COO Paul Raines sounded inspired by the publisher's initiative and rather than bash the idea,
encouraged it, saying they're «pleased to participate in the launch of
Electronic Arts online pass and sales of DLC on new titles» in a recent earnings call.
