The new, unified ProTeach program would produce graduates eligible for
elementary certification with an
endorsement in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and with expertise in special
education, or graduates with dual certification in special
education and
elementary education and the ESOL
endorsement.
For example,
Elementary Education Endorsement students enrolled in Language Arts Methods may only be selected for
elementary placements during a time the teacher candidate is available and that corresponds with the time when Language Arts will be taught at that partner school.
The graduate level
endorsement program for preparing teachers to work with students with special
education needs at K - 12 levels is designed for individuals who have already completed an approved teachers licensure program in early childhood or
elementary / secondary
education, and / or who have Master degrees in
education OR in an IDEA - designated related services profession.
The College of
Education supports a living - learning community (LLC) for first and second year students who have indicated an interest in the
elementary major or a secondary - level teaching
endorsement program.
Upon graduation,
elementary education majors are ready for teacher licensing with a reading
endorsement (other
endorsements require additional coursework) and special
education majors are ready for their license in the field valid for K — 12 classrooms.
