The frenetic
energy of the festival, now in its eighth edition, could be read as curatorial neglect, though it also suits a
city where three - storey Victorian buildings with broken windows abut squat grey boxes housing Natural Born Grillers: Cold & Hot
Food.
The Dialogues first mobilized thousands of experts and specialists in online conversations, covering ten themes including oceans,
energy,
cities,

Cities need to be revamped for sustainable, independent
food supplies, for decreased our reliance on fossil - fueled transportation and increased walk - and bike - friendliness, and for
energy efficiency.
As Trathen Heckman of the Transition US movement wrote in a recent blog post: On a single weekend, May 14th & 15th, thousands of us will take to the streets, the garden, schoolyard, home, apartment and
city hall to take action as part of the 350 Home & Garden Challenge... A multitude of organizations across the country will transform, retrofit and revitalize our landscapes and homes to grow
food, conserve water, save
energy and build community.
Cities require extensive farmland,
food transportation systems, extensive
energy production, fresh water systems that affect the land surrounding the
city for thousands of square miles, and intense waste management.
It also ignores the fact that
cities, New York, for example are totally unsustainable and require the mass import of
energy and
food to survive; and yet, I see little in the New York Times editorial page about the need to break up such
energy sinks.
If changing to
energy intensive agriculture allows more
food to be produced by just 2 % of Indian farmers on half of the previous land, that should be no more frightening than when the other 98 % of US and Canadian farmers migrated to
cities in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
It offers Green Square, a location - based app for iPhone and iPod touch highlighting

The
City of Eugene has developed and is implementing strategies include increasing water conservation; increasing investment in the urban forest; removing essential services from the 100 - year flood zone; and increasing

Well, 1.3 million people move every week............... from the countryside to
cities, and they do so for many reasons but towards greater freedom, opportunity, healthcare, social mobility, affordable
energy,

The document also suggests that it is urgent to bring about transformations in key economic systems, from
energy,
cities and
food to the «take - make - waste» economy, and leverage evidence and new information technology, political leadership, coalitions for change and innovation.
For a stable climate, fewer wars, healthy children, clear air & water, a switch to wind & solar
energy, green jobs, stable
energy costs and
energy independence, cleaner governance, more land for
food and forests, sound investments and quieter
cities, it's time to divest from fossil fuels: oil, gas and coal.
Are you arguing that depending on
energy and technology is good for humanity (experience a major
city during a blackout, people die, worry of death, can't keep
food refrigerated, etc..)
Under the main theme «Together Towards A Secure Arab Water Future», the Arab Water Forum aims at providing policy recommendations to further promote cooperation between the Arab countries in the water sector, with a special focus on Water for
food, Water for
cities and water for
energy, Smart IWRM and Transboundary water.
Many of the world's
cities are suffering from the concentrated use of
energy services that emit air pollution, in particular from transport (but also industry, power generation etc.), while many of the poorest rural communities are particularly exposed to toxic fumes as they use polluting solid fuels to cook
food and boil water.
These initiatives will further protect the coastline as well as strengthen the
city's buildings, and all the vital systems that support the life of the
city (
energy grid, transportation systems, parks, telecommunications networks, healthcare system, and water and
food supplies).
And when they are,
cities can perform the essential service of 21st century urbanism: creating regenerative buildings and landscapes that produce more good for more people rather than places that are merely less bad: More clean
energy, more fresh water, more fertile soil, more
food, more productivity, more biodiversity — more health and well - being for all.

The people who do or should worry are
city planners or water and
energy resource managers, or those in agriculture and
food production, and these are the ones that matter for how the future pans out.
Water supplies, transportation nodes and arteries,
food supplies, and
energy production and distribution facilities all represent lynch - pins that, if disrupted, can take down a
city's ability to effectively function.
As we urgently address the fundamentals of people's well - being through initiatives focused on health,
energy access, jobs,
food, and
cities, we are also looking toward a future that will grow from the rapidly evolving trends we observe today.
What we need is a more optimistic, inclusive, and realistic vision of the future: More of us will live in
cities, use more
energy, eat better
food, be better educated, and be healthier.
In theory we could create enormous floating
cities using this technology, with
food and
energy created by the pumps, and cool the planet at the same time.
in conclusion a study that would be interesting and relivent would be that of
city imports such as
foods that people and pets eat and turn into calories which in turn become heat and fuels that are burned becoming heat and also electric
energy consumption.
It is a vision of: urbanization, as people in
cities have more opportunities and use resources more efficiently; intensified
food production to increase yields and leave more room for nature; the expanded use of nuclear
energy, which has zero emissions and the smallest land footprint of any
energy source; greater development of GMOs to reduce chemical use and increase yields; animal - free meat; «re-wilding» former farm and pasture lands with wolves, buffalo, mountain lions, and even formerly extinct species — all the while supporting universal human dignity.
