Your first
weapon slot are kinetic
weapons that obviously deal no void, arc or solar damage but your second
slot, now called
energy weapons do.
Firearms and melee
weapons are once again organised into three different
slots, with in a slightly amended way, now billed as Kinetic
weapons,
Energy weapons and Power
weapons, with one of each equipped at any time.
Each
weapon you hold in your hands can be imbued with technomancy powers to add shock damage at the cost of focus
energy resource while upgrade
slots allow for extra stat increases as you progress through the campaign.
On top of the new guns we now have different types of
slots, one for Kinetic
weapons, one for
Energy weapons, and Power
weapons.
Destiny 2's
weapon systems have also been reworked, with primary, secondary and heavy
weapons replaced by a new system: where primaries take up two
slots, one has elemental damage, and stronger
weapons are all lumped into a third category (named kinetic,
energy and power).
Weapons are now split between ammo types, with the primary
slot occupied by kinetic or standard bullets, the secondary set for
energy weapons, and the special
slot for those
weapons of the heavy variety.
The kinetic and
energy slots are meant to be more interchangeable, allowing players to equip more
weapon types than the stricter primary and secondary
slots from the first game.

weapons as in original Destiny, Guardians will have kinetic,
energy and power
weapon slots.
It gives you more freedom to use whatever gun you want in each
slot but the key thing to remember is the

weapon sandbox but did not significantly alter the time to kill (aka TTK) for
weapons in the primary or
energy slot.
