The technique we're about to outline simply adds Wi - Fi access points to any open
Ethernet connection on your hard - wired LAN — no fancy configuration or Wi - Fi Voodoo required.
In my tests using
an Ethernet connection on an office line that grants 35 Mbps download speeds, it still took about 40 seconds from when I started a video to when it achieved maximum resolution.
Not exact matches
On the computer's rear panel are a number of
connection options, including seven USB 2.0 ports (three of which you'll need for the included Bluetooth receiver and the wired keyboard and mouse), two USB 3.0 ports, an eSATA port, a Gigabit
Ethernet jack for connecting to the Internet, and S / PDIF and eight - channel analog audio outputs.
All players (except for some very early models) also have
Ethernet / LAN ports for wired

connection, a Gigabit

You'll need a 5 GHz wireless
connection to do so, or wired

on the new Apple TV and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity is available for wireless
connections.
On a related note, it's worth mentioning that Simple.TV currently requires a hard wire
ethernet connection to your router whereas Tablo can get by with Wi - Fi.
Plus, you can optionally use the
ethernet ports
on the second node for a hard - wired
connection for consoles or desktop computers.
As mentioned before, the Playbar requires a wired
Ethernet connection unless you have another wired Sonos component
on your home network.
For example, why
on a system that desperately needs a consistent
connection to the internet, would you not have an
ethernet port?
The other requirement is that although the Playbar is technically wireless, at least one Sonos component
on your network needs a wired,
Ethernet connection.
On the Creators Update, Microsoft now easily allows you to set a wired
Ethernet connection as metered, too.
On Sunday at Mobile World Congress (MWC), Samsung took the wraps off of the Dex Pad, an addition to the DeX station portfolio that takes the Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9 Plus and Galaxy Note 8 and makes it a CPU to power a monitor, keyboard and take in an
Ethernet connection.
There are additional
connections on the back of the TV: the common interface slot, another USB (ideal for an external hard drive if you plan to record from the internal tuner or use Timeshift), as well as an
Ethernet connection.
With dual band Wi - Fi,
Ethernet connection, and all the latest 4K and HDR formats

If you want to ensure a strong
connection, it even features an

Your only disappointment will be if, like us, you expect to find an
Ethernet port
on your business laptop, which can make your life much easier if you're faced with poor Wi - Fi in a hotel or crowded banquet hall, but manage to find a wired
connection.
There's the
Ethernet connection which we'd recommend using over the built - in Wi - Fi, especially if you plan
on using any of the
on - board streaming apps.
The circular graph will show you data used over different
connections (in the case of our screenshot we've just used
Ethernet but
on a laptop you've used
on both wired and Wi - Fi networks you'll see a mix of sources).
Wired vs. wireless hub
connection: Many smart hubs must connect to your wireless router via an
ethernet cable, which limits your placement and, of course, requires a free
ethernet port
on your router.
If you're
on an
ethernet connection, the maximum settings will probably work.
And with the DeX's
Ethernet jack, you could even stream your gaming exploits out to YouTube or Twitch over wired
Ethernet for a much more reliable
connection than you'd get
on Wi - Fi or 4G LTE.

What you don't get is 4K resolution, expandable storage, an
Ethernet connection, or the ability to play media stored
on USB drives.
On the other hand, facilitating those ideal circumstances can be quite expensive and inconvenient, as you'll need an Nvidia - recommended router, an incredibly fast broadband
connection and a wired
Ethernet cable.
I suspect audiophiles would also prefer an
Ethernet jack (as
on the Sonos One) to ensure a steady audio
connection, but Wi - Fi should suffice for most everyone else.
The video quality was fairly poor over Wi - Fi, even with the Shield TV only a few feet away from the router, but using an
Ethernet connection the game looked very closed to the way it would if I ran it locally
on a PC.
