There is of course much more to the new Sense for
tablets: there's the new homescreen unlocking mechanism when you turn the device
on; SnapBooth which is a way of showing you a stack of effects the camera can produce;
Evernote, the note taking software that lets you share notes with people and yourself via the web; and Kid Mode thanks to an
app provided by Zoodles that locks down the Flyer so your kids can't cause chaos if you leave it with them.
Toshiba aims to make that up with its very own
app store and is shipping the
tablet pre-loaded with a variety of convenient
apps like Toshiba Media Player, Fring, Document to Go,
Evernote and so
on.
BN is creating a very curated experience (like the nook UI) and as far as I've seen the
apps that have come out of the nook appstore have been similar and in some cases superior to what exists elsewhere (one example is the
evernote app, which looks remarkably different
on the nook than it does
on my android phone, not sure if it looks the same
on other
tablets, but...).
Lately, I've been attaching documents to notebooks in the
Evernote app which then allows me to edit them
on my Kindle Fire, sync
Evernote on my
tablet and them my computer, and violà the updated file can be opened and edited
on my PC!
The
Tablet S will get a selection of homegrown and third - party titles, including
Evernote, FourSquare and USTREAM though they weren't present
on our review unit, plus the Remote Control
app mentioned before.
