The latest
main series entry in the long - running «Resident
Evil» franchise is a bit of a reboot.
The two
main series in the genre that had gamers playing during the day with their lights on were Resident
Evil and Silent Hill.
The
main problem is that for the first time since maybe Event Horizon, Anderson seems to be trying to make an actual movie and not just a thinly veiled excuse to indulge himself in ludicrous adolescent fantasies, mainly starring his wife (see: The Three Musketeers 2011 and the entire Resident
Evil series, or the «Check Out My Ridiculously Hot Wife» franchise as some on the internet have affectionately dubbed it.)
While
main - line titles like Resident
Evil 5 and 6 struggled to make a lasting impression in anything other than sales, the Revelations spin - offs offered long - time
series fans more of what they wanted.
On the other hand, many thought Resident
Evil 7 was a fantastic update of the concept of the
series, but aspects as its very obvious American setting or the absence of any of the iconic protagonists made it feel like a spin - off rather than a
main entry, at least for Japanese customers.
With all of the
main series games being playable on newer consoles in some form, talks about a full remake of Resident
Evil 2 being in the works, and the fantastic looking Resident
Evil 7: Biohazard coming out this January (Check out the latest trailer here), it is a fantastic time to be a fan of the
series.
Anderson says he isn't thinking of it as a 4th film, but as a rebooting of the whole
series, but yet they have announced a slew of returning characters, including the
main one, Alice, who never existed in the Resident
Evil franchise in the first place.

series back to its roots, and for the first time in the
main series it reverts to a first person perspective and supports PlayStation VR (which I took full advantage of for this review) to create a more immersive experience than ever before.

main characters; becoming self - aware; trying new ways to tell the story, and even changing the gameplay to try and appeal to wider audiences — it wouldn't be surprising if Capcom killed off a popular Resident
Evil character soon, just to add some spice to their most well - known cash cow.
The Darkside Chronicles isn't considered the
main game of the
series» canon; it's an on - rails shooter that takes you back through the dark and creepy Resident
Evil 2 and Code Veronica, hitting you hard with a nostalgia trip.
Back in 1996, these were probably the furthest things from any Resident
Evil fan's mind, but for better or worse, the
series has survived six
main numbered games and a number of spin - offs.

Evil outside the
