OFA's
Eye Certification registers, collects and shares dog
eye examination information to help veterinary ophthalmologists identify blinding diseases
For most breeds, this means doing a blood profile, thyroid testing, brucellosis testing, hip xrays for hip dysplasia with the xrays being sent to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) for
certification, and
eye examination (commonly referred to as CERF «ing).
The service also performs breed
certification eye examinations of purebred dogs.
Dogs can receive a OFA
Eye Certification examination at their veterinary
eye specialist's hospital, or at local OFA
Eye Certification clinics that are frequently held at dog shows, general veterinary practices or at breed clubs.
The rules may apply to the health of the dogs, such as joint x-rays, hip
certifications, and
eye examinations; to working qualities, such as passing a special test or achieving at a trial; to general conformation, such as evaluation of a dog by a breed expert.
All Cotons will be tested for healthy
Eyes by performing a CERF
examination and submitting paperwork to CERF for a valid
certification number and inclusion in the CERF online database.
