Nearly 300 localbridges across Western New York are out of date or in need of repair, US Sen. Chuck Schumer announced as he launched a push for more federal funding to help fix those spans.
«Considering that local governments own 87 % of the roads and 50 % of the bridges, it's imperative that the state boost CHIPS funding and help fund fixes to our crumbling bridges and culverts.
«Local governments and our tax payers are left with unmanageable costs to fix infrastructure, including roads, bridges, culverts, retaining walls, detention ponds and many others,» Picente said in his letter.
