Wendy, The low
FODMAP diet and the gluten free certainly have some overlap but you don't
need to be completely gluten free on the low
FODMAP diet.
You might
need to modify some of the foods on the low
FODMAP diet to your personal tolerance.
The symptoms I experience are gas and a bit of bloating a lot of the time after eating, sometimes mild abdominal pain and the
need to use the bathroom a lot (for numbers 2s), sometimes I
need to go, sometimes I don't, but I still get that uneasy feeling, therefore a low
fodmap diet could be suitable to me.
Big problem with following
FODMAP diet is being hypoglycemic and
needing to have snacks in my purse.
If you
need to follow a low -
FODMAPs diet, then I recommend steering clear of sugar alcohols until you've healed enough to tolerate them.
Nuts
need to be limited — especially almonds where the cut off is 12 g / serving to keep the
FODMAP load inline w / the
diet goal... on the elimination phase.
Also, the
diet is NOT designed for long term — so no
need to grieve the loss of your favorite
FODMAP containing foods quite yet... the
diet is typically followed for 2 - 6 weeks followed by a re-introduction or challenge phase to see what foods you can add back without GI distress.
If a person is following a low
fodmaps diet, and they have issues with wheat (fructans) do they necessarily
need to avoid gluten in all food products.
Wanted to use it in a recipe for homemade mayo, could always substitute it with another oil, but I like avocado oil which I have used before I knew (and
needed) about the

Hi Kate, I read in your blog that if someone doesn't get complete relief from the
FODMAP diet, that maybe they should try and remove salicylate... I considered doing that however when I looked it up, I was overwhelmed by the amount of food that
needs to be removed from the
diet.
I adhere to a modified
FODMAP diet (modified in the sense that what I personally
need to avoid are the Galactans [beans, lentils -RCB-, and some fructans [garlic, onions, broccoli, cabbage]....
Like
needing to cut back on coffee and cocoa and recalibrate my low
fodmap diet — it was the
fodmap article that lead me here btw.
