After
years of suffering with IBS I was medically advised to try a low
FODMAP diet.
This
year, more people were familiar with the low -
FODMAP diet, which is great news as it is starting to gain momentum here in the states.
I've been following the Low
FODMAP diet for almost a
year because of IBS and a very sensitive gut.
I have been trying the low
FODMAP diet for about a
year now, and really missed mince pies last Christmas.
On a personal level, I've finally got my head around the
FODMAP diet, and feel well the majority of the time — a big improvement from where I was a
year ago.
Although other guests may bring tempting - looking high -
FODMAP dishes, feel free to pass and stick to the three or four low -
FODMAP dishes you know are safe, bearing in mind that the low -
FODMAP diet isn't forever and that by next
year, you'll have tested and re-introduced more high -
FODMAP foods and should be able to enjoy more of your favorite dishes.
Also, my four
year old is on a low
fodmap diet due to IBS, so I used ripe banana instead of applesauce, and reduced the hony to 30 g by using 50 g raw cane sugar and 20 g maple sirup.
I have followed a low
FODMAP diet for 4
years as prescribed by my physician.
I have been gluten free for 10
years, dairy free for several months, and am following a low

Although somedays it feels like a low
FODMAP diet (in addition to paleo) is limiting, I also think it's so amazing to be able to eat real food and to try food that I would have NEVER tried four

However, this
diet is complex and not just a list of good foods and bad foods, and you will need guidance where the amounts, combinations and accumulation of
FODMAP are concerned, but it is the answer that you have been seeking for
years, if not decades, for your IBS symptoms.

As a practitioner that has been studying global food traditions for 20
years, I am not overly impressed by the
FODMAP diet and its conclusions.
Back in 2010, I blogged about how a LOW
FODMAP diet was amazing for my gut (here and here) and helped me to resolve many of the symptoms of IBS (bacterial overgrowth, etc) that I'd been struggling with for
years (and
years).
Over the past couple
years I have heard practitioners and patients refer to the
FODMAP diet as a way to resolve chronic gut issues like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Trying low
FODmap diet for 20 +
year problem with gas, bloating and reflux AT NIGHT (wakes me every night for up to 2 hours!).
In fact the
FODMAP is very similar to the low carbohydrate
diet I followed 8
years ago.

Hi kate, I have been struggling with GI issues for over a
year now and have tried every
diet known to man including Low
FODMAP, clean guy, low histamine, etc... Over the past month my stomach has gotten progressively worse with bouts of constipation, diarrhea, severe bloating and shooting pain.
I am currently trying to heal from IBS (extreme distention), fructose malabsorption as well as regain normal menstrual cycles as I have amenorrhea and have had irregular periods and low libido my whole life... I just started eating a low

FODMAP diet, so I started investigating and learning more.
My wife is a dietitian who has had IBS for 20

Hi Kate, I've been following a low -
fodmap diet for about a
year now (2 rounds of antibiotics), and I feel good when I eat ZERO
fodmaps, but shouldn't I be able to reintro a few by now?
Is there any evidence that after following the
diet for a
year or two that you can begin eating some of the high
FODMAPs foods again?
So, after following an extremely restrictive
diet for about 4
years due to some misleading blood tests (thought I was allergic to gluten, dairy, eggs, soy, peanuts, etc despite negative skin tests and negative celiac blood tests and biopsy) in addition to trying to eat GP friendly (I do have gastroparesis) and low
FODMAP and still being symptomatic -LRB-!)
Furthermore, about five other studies were published last
year too, including this review, and this review which found that a low
FODMAP diet could reduce IBS in 37 - 45 % of patients.
Study after study is flooding out; over the last five
years countless have concluded that a low
FODMAP diet is effective for treating irritable bowel syndrome.
I will say that one of the biggest mistakes I see is people doing low
FODMAP diets or super restrictive
diets for 6 months to a
year or more.
Over the past few
years, the low
FODMAP diet is getting some good press.
