Back
in October 2003, then -
college freshman Mark Zuckerberg exploited lax computer security at Harvard's online
dorm directories (they were called «
facebooks» after physical books full of little pictures of people's faces that used to be distributed to students
in the pre-digital era) to assemble a vast collection of photos of students» faces, which were used as raw material for a web project he called Facemash.
College, of course, offers incoming students many social novelties: independence, new friends, all - nighters to cram for finals, and perhaps even new «temptations» around campus (you may very well find yourself checking out the
facebook page of the person
in the next
dorm).
