WHEREAS, In 2010, Erie County embarked on a process to develop a new Agricultural and
Farmland Protection Plan to guide County efforts to support local farms and protect farmland.
It is ordered all applicable Erie County Departments to follow the policies and recommendations contained within the Erie County Agricultural and
Farmland Protection Plan (and Appendix) in connection with all actions and decisions affecting agriculture and farmland preservation within Erie County; and it is,
The new Erie County Agricultural and
Farmland Protection Plan creates innovative strategies to guide the County to identify and protect agricultural land with development pressure, support new farms and attract new farmers to Erie County, identify strategies to increase the financial viability of agriculture in the County, connect rural and urban farmers with consumers and new markets, and increase accessibility of healthy, local food for consumers.
The Department supports the County's vibrant agricultural economy through agricultural programs including The County's Agricultural and
Farmland Protection Plan and Agricultural District Program.

WHEREAS, Erie County's first Agricultural and
Farmland Protection Plan was developed in 1996 and, in the past 16 years, much has changed throughout the region;
• The 37 distinct action items of the Oneida County
Farmland Protection Plan which lay out five goals of supporting ag - business while creating new businesses; connecting local farmers with consumers; bringing new individuals to agriculture through education initiatives; increasing public awareness and protecting important farmland resources.
Together, we have completed an ambitious
farmland protection plan that is being put into action, and we will be embarking on our Agriculture - Friendly Oneida County Initiative that will serve as a guide to assist municipalities and businesses in navigating zoning, regulations, planning and laws that will allow ag - business to expand.
