There is just something about the idea and setting that intrigues me and I think seeing something made by a first time
feature length
filmmaker is a must for everyone when attending a film
festival.
In a banner day for the
festival,
featuring premieres of new work from several well known international
filmmakers, the best film I saw was one that premiered elsewhere, Cannes in» 07.
Thankfully, amidst the glamour and spectacle that frequently serve as distraction during film
festivals, the atmosphere at TIFF remains unmistakably Canadian, by avoiding competition in favor of admiration and by
featuring an assortment of Canadian
filmmakers within its program.
The slate includes a number of familiar names, most notably «Simon Killer»
filmmaker Antonio Campos, who will return to the
festival with «Christine» (a narrative
feature about TV reporter Christine Chubbuck, who killed herself live on - air in 1974; interestingly enough, the Sundance slate also includes a Chubbuck - centric documentary, «Kate Plays Christine,» a new
feature from director Robert Greene that looks to blend fact and fiction in ways similar to his previous documentary, «Actress») and «This is Martin Bonner» director Chad Hartigan, who will debut his «Morris from America» at the
festival.

features and movies by largely unknown

Eduardo Williams is an Argentine
filmmaker whose debut
feature, The Human Surge (2016), has received significant critical acclaim on the
festival circuit.
Some Background: Gerber co-directed SXSW winner FULL BATTLE RATTLE (with fellow 2014 Sundance
filmmaker Jesse Moss of THE OVERNIGHTERS), which received support from the Sundance Institute, and is a
