Other than obviously polling your mailing
list, how else do you find out
where your
fiction audience will be?
because the entire novel sprawls with fact and
fiction and although in some cases it is easy to tell the two apart (sentient TV sets being a bit of a give - away) in other instances it is more difficult to know
where one begins and the other ends, and keeping track of the many characters was a challenge - a
list of key characters and how they related to each other would have been a help.

An often talked about option for marketing books (especially
fiction books) is eBook discovery services like Bookbub,
where readers sign up to regular e-mails of discounted books and authors pay to have their books
listed.
Personally, I tend to enter flash
fiction contests or things like informal forum contests
where we're given a
list of things / features that must or must not be in them.
This is all designed to give the new series a good start and to try to make some Top 100
lists over on Amazon
where new readers (readers who prefer science
fiction adventures to swords and dragons!)
