Cat Rescue and Sanctuary is a joint
community effort
focused on stray and feral
cats / kittens in Thunder Bay and surrounding areas.
Creating humane
communities across British Columbia with a strong
focus on improving the welfare of
cats across the province through initiatives such as increased adoption, sterilization and permanent identification with the goal of elevating the status of
cats in our
communities

cats, as well as offering general medical services to the surrounding

The core strategy of the campaign
focuses on five key initiatives that offer every shelter, in every
community, practical choices to reduce euthanasia and to increase live outcomes for shelter

TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return), SNR (Shelter, Neuter, Return) and RTF (Return to Field) are similar programs that
communities can use to to reduce the number of free - roaming
cats and allow shelters to
focus resources on dogs and
cats that can be rehomed, thus reducing death rates.
As the Director of Applied Research and Behavior at the ASPCA, Heather's work
focuses on improving the lives of dogs,
cats, and horses in their
communities across the country.
The ASAP organizations (both animal shelters and spay / neuter providers) were engaged to help select an intervention area to
focus on reducing intake of
cats and Pit Bull - type dogs into the
community's shelters.
This
focus directed our organization to take on the responsibility of establishing a Free Spay and Neuter Clinic for
community owned dogs and
cats.
The city has also been
focused on the feral
cat population and individuals and
communities have stepped up to help with Trap - Neuter - Return programs.
It effectively and humanely manages the
community cat population, reduces shelter intake and «euthanasia» numbers, and reduces calls to animal control agencies so they can

A no - kill
community is one that acts on the belief that every healthy, adoptable dog and healthy
cat should be saved, and that its
focus should be on saving as many lives as possible through pet adoption, spay / neuter, trap - neuter - return and other
community support programs rather than achieving a specific numerical outcome.
Communities benefit from TNR because it reduces and stabilizes
community cat populations, saves tax - payers» dollars, helps shelters
focus on adoptions, and provides a humane and collaborative way to address concerns and coexist with
cats.
We are a unique non-profit
focused on providing free spay and neuter services for
community cats.
However, they are likely to
focus on the most visible or concerning of
community cats (since these would most readily come to the attention of those managing the trapping process), thus preferentially impacting the
cats that would otherwise most likely be brought to a shelter out of concern or annoyance.
This ends the cycle of impounding and killing healthy
community cats, and allows shelters to
focus more resources on adoptable animals, which is what they are designed for.
Alley
Cat Allies has joined a Montgomery County, Md., coalition that is
focused on saving the lives of its
community cats and will continue to offer its leadership as the coalition works toward initiating a county - wide Trap - Neuter - Return program.

These high - volume, three - year programs

The practice of TNR used to be done randomly, but we taught
communities to
focus their resources on areas with high
cat overpopulation and achieve the greatest impact.

A Pathway to Hope is a foster based rescue dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and adoption of abandoned dogs and

focus on special needs cases, south to north rescue of northern breed dogs, local rescue of stray
cats and all breeds of dogs and
community outreach to further the cause of rescue.
In the long run, strategies that
focus on removing dangerous, sick and injured
cats, re-homing adoptable
cats and providing resources to help
community cats and people co-exist peacefully may be more cost effective, palatable and successful than reliance on continued removal and euthanasia of unwanted
