In fact, it inspired me to start my own
French Kids School Lunch project (sadly I can't take photos, but I do list the menus that French school kids eat every day, which make for fascinating reading — if only for the contrast with what is often served in North America)!

E.g., I once posted about
school food in France (which looked amazing from the report, no doubt because far more money is spent on it than it is here in the US), and I believe
French kids do not bring
lunch from home.
Meanwhile, blogger Karen Le Billion (author of
French Kids Eat Everything, to be reviewed on TLT soon), tells us that in France,
school children are routinely given between one and a half to two hours for
lunch, with a minimum of thirty minutes devoted to eating.
And did you know that the
French kids eat gizzard salad as a first course at the
school lunch program in Pau, France?
There is a long two - hour
lunch break in
French schools, and while this makes the day longer (maybe too long) for the
kids, on the other side, the children have a good break in the middle of the day to eat their
lunch slowly and digest afterwards in the recess area (
French law states that children must sit at the table for a minimum of 30 minutes).
I may not have the daily experience to pack my
kids their
school lunches in a brown bag (oh the
French don't allow it), but I have packed many a brown bag for their
school outings and other picnic adventures, oh la la!

lunch.
