I most often use
fresh coffee grounds, Vivian, but you can certainly use either!

Fresh coffee grounds will give you more nutrients / benefit just because they haven't been used yet.

Simply add
coffee grounds to a
fresh press (double the amount you usually use) and pour in a splash of hot water into the French press.

fresh as possible) and one ice cube tray.
