from Retro Desserts] and Thomas Keller's marshmallows, as featured on Cooking for Engineers, and packed them up with skewers for toasting and giant bars of Hershey's milk chocolate (exactly what we used in summer camp).
This
homemade version yields nearly 8 dozen
crackers (less, if you don't cut them as thinly as instructed) and is made
from things you likely already have hanging around in the cupboard, maybe with the exception of the dried fruit and / or nuts and seeds.
There are several different ways to make a pie crust, whether it's
from crushed graham
crackers, smashed cookies or
homemade pie dough.
I love C.T.Crunch and happen to have a ton of WW pastry flour on hand
from when I made
homemade Graham
Crackers.
We set out cheese and mixed
crackers, fancy meats, shrimp cocktail (my personal favorite), chips and Dave's delicious
homemade guacamole and some mini Spanakopita bites

These flavors called to me as I stared at a big ole pile of
homemade vanilla bean marshmallows and graham
crackers that I had leftover
from a picnic yesterday (I'll share some pictures etc. in the next few days.).
My oldest girl had mini heart cheese sandwiches on
homemade bread (
from the Knoxville Bread Co-op), apples and carrots, dried rolled dates, cheddar bunny
crackers and a tangerine.
It's just so much easier to toss into the car some prepackaged snacks (
from Whole Foods, sure, but little better nutritionally than Goldfish
crackers) and a Honest Kids juice pouch than it is to come up with something better, but maybe more labor intensive, like sliced fruit or a
homemade muffin.
