The poor
Golf has taken a bit of stick during its time on the fleet
so far, mostly for the less - than - smooth operation of its DSG gearbox, but it says a lot for what the
car can do that, every time I'm away from it, I miss it.
The vRS is less agile hot hatchback than the

The forthcoming Focus RS and Volkswagen's

so does the cheaper Focus ST.. The JCW has size on its side, though, and the resulting power to weight ratio makes for a city
car that can squirt out of bends and away from stoplights with as much alacrity as far more powerful sports
cars — up to a certain speed.
City EPA mileage is all the way down at 19 mpg,
so don't mistake the
Golf R for an economy
car.
For a
car that is
so widely loved — VW has sold more than 33 million examples since its introduction in the 1970s — the
Golf is definitely a fan favorite, but its appearance in standard or non-GTI form has traditionally been somewhat mundane without a whole lot of character compared to models it competes with like the Ford Focus, Mazda 3, and Fiat 500.
Unlike the
Golf GTI (which is available with three or five doors) and the Focus ST (which is available as a hatchback or estate) the 308 GTi is only offered as a five - door hatchback — although you do get one of the biggest boots in this class,
so it remains a practical
car.
The entire
Golf line was refreshed for 2015 —

As with the standard A3, it's built on the VW Group's latest modular MQB platform,
