They resurrected the
GTO name, and the car went on to serve
as Mitsubishi's flagship for the remainder of the decade.
The Japanese domestic market model took its name from the Galant
GTO, a two - door hardtop coupé sold by the company in the early 1970s, which in turn took its name from a specific international endurance motor sport technical regulation, expressed in Italian
as Gran Turismo Omologato.
Despite the cachet of the badge at home, it was marketed
as the Mitsubishi 3000GT and
as the Dodge Stealth outside Japan; the company was concerned that connoisseurs would object to the evocative nameplate from the highly regarded Ferrari 250
GTO and Pontiac
GTO being used on a Japanese vehicle.
The
GTO SR made the same power
as the US spec 3000GT SL and was offered with the same 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic.
There are definitely a lot of
GTOs and Camaros, but

The Premium D8
GTO were built
as a limited series of 25 cars and had a little more power (380 + BHP) than e.g. the D8
GTO Performance.
As is usually the case in coupes, the folks in back are a little less comfortable but, for a coupe, the
GTO's legroom and headroom are generous.
This low weight is due to composite materials such
as the full carbon fibre body of the D8
GTO.
Unlike some high - performance models, the new
GTO can be driven for hours without the driver feeling
as if he's been beaten up by two guys in an alley.
