The McLaren F1
GTR is most famous for winning the 1995 Le Mans
race outright against the mighty prototypes, but it's also incredibly well - known for the monstrous noise from its BMW V12 engine (which was modified further for the Long Tail
version, which is in the above video).
There's only one drivable
version in existence so far, the specimen McLaren first showed in a video
racing against the Le Mans - winning F1
GTR and recently brought to the Goodwood Festival of Speed for the dash up the hill.
Three
versions were announced - the entry - level S, a
GTR - S (which needs a pressurised
race suit to counteract the g - forces) and the X, which produces more than 2500bhp and would need a seven - month training program...
Mercedes was required to build a minimum of 25 road
versions of their CLK
GTR race car.
After delivering 100 customer cars McLaren stopped production after seven prototypes, 64 road cars, 5 special F1 LMs (built to commemorate victory at Le Mans in 1995), three F1 GTs (road going
versions of the long tail 1997 F1
GTR race car) and 28 F1
GTR road cars.
