Diverse as ever, McLean's select exhibition contains two mixed media works;
presented on the ground floor of the
gallery, the Untitled paintings are comprised of dense, black organic
shapes that veer to the abstraction on neutral backgrounds, adorned with daubs of coloured paper that on some sides have been hastily cut and others impatiently ripped, a nod to the rebellious humour of McLean who's body of oeuvre comprises witty sculptures made of rubbish and even his own body.
Influences converged, passion and intellect were engaged, and seminal moments occurred to help
shape the process: in 1962 when Irving Blum (who had taken over Kienholtz's position at the
gallery) gave Andy Warhol his first solo
gallery exhibition ever at Ferus (the Campbell's Soup Can Paintings); in 1963, when Hopps moved to the Pasadena Art Museum and
presented the first retrospective of Marcel Duchamp in the US; in 1966 with Ed Kienholtz's epochal retrospective at the LA County Museum; and in the decade from the late fifties to the late sixties when Ed Moses, Billy Al Bengston, and Ed Ruscha among a handful of others were on center stage.
In Berlin, the
gallery will
present a survey of Piene's motorised light sculptures, while one of his larger works, a 45 - foot - wide inflatable octopus
shaped sculpture, will be unveiled by the
gallery at Art Basel this summer.

presenting a series of works by five Californian artists (Mary Corse (b. 1945), Robert Irwin (b. 1928), Craig Kauffman (1932 — 2010), John McCracken (1934 — 2011), and DeWain Valentine (b. 1936)-RRB- who have been investigating the potential of plastic (synthetically produced resins) in art:» Known for their pioneering work with various synthetic resins and synthetic polymers during the 1960s and «70s, these artists are today recognized not only for their active roles in the development of plastics as a newly discovered medium in art, but also for their sophisticated techniques and at times even quasi-acrobatic prowess required to
shape them into the seamless, translucent, luscious volumes.»
For this exhibition, Rowe
presents a new large - scale installation Suffusion Screen (her thoughts, means, and ends), 2014 that bisects the
