In both studies, researchers examined the mate preferences of men and women in countries that vary in terms of their Global
Gender Gap Index, a relatively new measure of the degree of gender equality that exists within a given country.
Larger sex differences in obesity rates were reported in countries with greater gender inequality, quantitatively assessed by the global
gender gap index, and the gender inequality index in multicountry ecological studies (7 — 9).
These were the Social and Institutional Gender Index or SIGI (which measures discrimination against women), the Gender Inequality Index or GII (which measures health economic and power inequities), and
the Gender Gap Index or GGI (a measure of economic, education, health and political power).
Ghana has been ranked the 59th most gender - equal country in the world according to the Global
Gender Gap index, which is a ranking of 144 countries.

Looking at the individual pillars of the
Index, the report finds that in 2017 that 27 countries have now closed the
gender gap in Educational Attainment; three more countries than last year.
