Building on this prior research, AAAS received funding from the Open Society Foundation to support (1) development, dissemination and analysis of a preliminary global questionnaire to elicit the views of scientists, engineers and health professionals as to the meaning of the right; and (2) organization of a briefing for the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights to inform its development of a General Comment on the right.

The standards would be implemented by a committee comprised of research scientists, forensic science practitioners, and members of the legal and law enforcement agencies, along with the Attorney General and the Director of NIST, to ensure they adhere to science - based priorities.

On Feb. 22, 2017, Wyndham along with Vitullo presented the findings of their research during a briefing of the U.N. Committee on Economic, Cultural and Social Rights, the body responsible for undertaking the «General Comment» process and for monitoring implementation of the treaty containing the right to science.

The idea is to present, up front, in half a page or so, the information that the committee is most likely to be looking for in the early, screening phase of the search: clearly stated research goals, the most compelling motivation, and the general approach you intend to take.
