This is an incredibly difficult question to answer for a variety of reasons, most importantly because over the years our once vaunted «beautiful» style of play has become a shadow of it's former self, only to be replaced by a less than stellar «plug and play» mentality where players play out of position and adjustments / substitutions are rarely forthcoming before the 75th minute... if you look at our current players, very few would make sense in the traditional Wengerian system... at present, we don't have the personnel to move the ball quickly from deep - lying position, efficient one touch midfielders that can make the necessary through balls or the disciplined and pacey forwards to stretch defences into wide positions, without the aid of the backs coming up into the final 3rd, so that we can attack the defensive lanes in the same clinical fashion we did years ago... on this current squad, we have only 1 central defender on staf, Mustafi, who seems to have any prowess in the offensive zone or who can even pass two zones through so that we can advance play quickly out of our own end (I have seen some inklings that suggest Holding might have some offensive qualities but too early to tell)... unfortunately Mustafi has a tendency to get himself in trouble when he gets overly aggressive on the ball... from our backs out wide, we've seen pace from the likes of Bellerin and Gibbs and the spirited albeit offensively stunted play of Monreal, but none of these players possess the skill - set required in the offensive zone for the new Wenger scheme which requires deft touches, timely runs to the baseline and consistent crossing, especially when Giroud was playing and his ratio of scored goals per clear chances was relatively low (better last year though)... obviously I like Bellerin's future prospects, as you can't teach pace, but I do worry that he regressed last season, which was obvious to Wenger because there was no way he would have used Ox as the right side wing - back so often knowing that Barcelona could come calling in the off - season, if he thought otherwise... as for our midfielders, not a single one, minus the more confident Xhaka I watched played for the Swiss national team a couple years ago, who truly makes sense under the traditional Wenger model... Ramsey holds onto the ball too long, gives the ball away cheaply far too often and abandons his defensive responsibilities on a regular basis (doesn't score enough recently to justify): that being said, I've always thought he does possess a little something special, unfortunately he thinks so too... Xhaka is a little too slow to ever boss the midfield and he tends to telegraph his one true strength, his long ball play: although I must admit he did get a bit better during some points in the latter part of last season... it always made me wonder why whenever he played with Coq Wenger always seemed to play Francis in a more advanced role on the pitch... as for Coq, he is way too reckless at the wrong times and has exhibited little offensive prowess yet finds himself in and around the box far too often... let's face it Wenger was ready to throw him in the trash heap when injuries forced him to use Francis and then he had the nerve to act like this was all part of a bigger Wenger constructed plan... he like Ramsey, Xhaka and Elneny don't offer the skills necessary to satisfy the quick transitory nature of our old offensive scheme or the stout defensive mindset needed to protect the defensive zone so that our offensive players can remain aggressive in the final third... on the front end, we have Ozil, a player of immense skill but stunted by his physical demeanor that tends to offend, the fact that he's been played out of position far too many times since arriving and that the players in front of him, minus Sanchez, make little to no sense considering what he has to offer (especially Giroud); just think about the quick counter-attack offence in Real or the space and protection he receives in the German National team's midfield, where teams couldn't afford to focus too heavily on one individual... this player was a passing «specialist» long before he arrived in North London, so only an arrogant or ignorant individual would try to reinvent the wheel and / or not surround such a talent with the necessary components... in regards to Ox, Walcott and Welbeck, although they all possess serious talents I see them in large part as headless chickens who are on the injury table too much, lack the necessary first - touch and / or lack the finishing flair to warrant their inclusion in a regular starting eleven; I would say that, of the 3, Ox showed the most upside once we went to a back 3, but even he became a bit too consumed by his pending contract talks before the season ended and that concerned me a bit... if I had to choose one of those 3 players to stay on it would be Ox due to his potential as a plausible alternative to Bellerin in that wing - back position should we continue to use that formation... in Sanchez, we get one of the most committed skill players we've seen on this squad for some years but that could all change soon, if it hasn't already of course... strangely enough, even he doesn't make sense given the constructs of the original Wenger offensive model because he holds onto the ball too long and he will give the ball up a little too often in the offensive zone... a fact that is largely forgotten due to his infectious energy and the fact that the numbers he has achieved seem to justify the means... finally, and in many ways most crucially, Giroud, there is nothing about this team or the offensive system that Wenger has traditionally employed that would even suggest such a player would make sense as a starter... too slow, too inefficient and way too easily dispossessed... once again, I think he has some special skills and, at times, has showed some world - class qualities but he's lack of mobility is an albatross around the necks of our offence... so when you ask who would be our best starting 11, I don't have a clue because of the 5 or 6 players that truly deserve a place in this side, 1 just arrived, 3 aren't under contract beyond 2018 and the other was just sold to Juve... man, this is theraputic because following this team is like an addiction to heroin without the benefits

Giroud is awful no matter how many times you defend him he'll keep messing up, every Arsenal game Giroud gets on average about 5 chances at goal but he can't even score 1, let me remind you that including end of last season in the last 11 Arsenal games Giroud has scored once!
Players scores Chech 8.5 top saves when needed Monreal 7 good steady game as always Mert 6 did ok The boss 6 looked tired Bel 7.5 good game needs work on crossing Walcot 5 did less than iwobi Cmpbell 7.5 worked hard, in front of ox and walcott anyway Flamini 7 steady Ox 4 poor all game not a clue how he gets a game Ramsey 5 very selfish player, if barca pay 50m take it and sigh Barkley for 35 Giroud 6.5 missed very good chance and doesn't hold the ball up at important times but had an ok performance Iwobi 7 did more than walcott in 15 mins Chambers not on long enough

I like giroud... I think he's a good player... but as gooners, we need to ask ourselves «against tough or defensive teams, where u get only 2 - 3 clear cut chances all game, can u put ur money on giroud to score at least 1???»
walcott had his chance to win over disbelieving fans like myself yday and did jack s ***, fluffed his one chance when he couldnt control through ball from roszicky... because all he can do is run... arsenal fans need to get over this third rate whippet he might be able to pose threats to the burnely defence but not stronger and quicker defences that we face at top... a definite sell in the summmer if we want to be serious contenders again along with ramsey, mert and giroud....
Quality is not all about goals or stats you know.If it was a lot of Arsenal players would have been sold and many players would not even be regarded.People need to look at the bigger picture. He scored 16 goals last two season as the starting CF.You and I know that based on the chances he gets he should've been doing better. The guy is not even a clinical player from what we watch yet people will always deny that fact. The only case people make up for Giroud is his goals. They can't even talk about his quality on the ball and others because it's non existent. He was part of the reason why Arsenal couldn't win the trophy in 15/16 season. It's a shame we are compromising and refuse to state things the way they are.Even if Giroud scores 40 goals in the EPL qualoty wise he's still average.
@almostawinner I totally agree with you we are good at creating chances we reach very good positions but giroud is less than average he won't even play at some mid-tables teams beleive me he can't dribble he rarely take long ranged shots he is not the best at movement I don't understand what do arsene wenger see in him to rely on him as our first choice We were going to get a striker three years ago (higuain) but the deal failed in the last second because wenger prefered to get ozil so what did giroud do to prove that he deserves his position can anybody tell me I really get mad when some arsenal fans tell that he is a good player because he is not!!
Ozil and Giroud are the only offensive players we have fit who could change the game, hopefully Giroud has the same boots on as last seasons game against Utd (well the ones he scored with anyway) and if Ozil does play, we need him to have a great game, I think he does get unfairly criticised at times but if the fans can't see him pulling the strings and creating chances then they might get on his back and his head could drop.
The reason Giroud couldn't do anything was because he was a lone striker taking on two CBs without the pace to get away from them and engineer a shooting chance, Ozil on the other hand is a guy who likes to slot in the perfect pass to a runner already in at goal.
This will result in Giroud having absolutely no chance of getting game time at the club and he will therefore look to move.
Those who know much about football and are true to themselves and to the world at large would know that watching Giroud on TV is the same as watching an average player. The thing is its not his fault that he's average. That's just how some are. That's just how life is but people refuse to get that fact.In life in terms of soccer we have average players and world class players while some fall between the two. That's just how life is.The earlier people accept it the better.Life is just that way so deal with it.Its agonizing anytime I watch him play and I for one can confidently say that the day he's sold people would not miss him. When he goes to his career would take a downhill that's why I see him as lucky player with Arsenal just given him 1000's tof chances to score on a silver platter. He would look so normal playing in an average team to be honest.
With the arrival of Danny Welbeck at Arsenal on transfer deadline day, the chances for Yaya Sanogo to play in his favoured centre forward role were reduced dramatically, but with Olivier Giroud being out of action for the next four months or so, the young French striker should still get some chances.
Monreal and mersacker, with ox and Gibbs as wing backs, Chelsea week link is Luiz a loose cannon and victor Moses a striker in a wing back, get at them we have a chance and play Theo Walcott instead of giroud
We did nt get it and the longer the season goes on the more dependant we will become on goals from midfield, which makes our attacking predictable and easy to defend, we have no element of surprise in attack, nobody dribbles or runs past an opponent at pace at Arsenal, its all based on rotating positions and passing until a gap opens, the big sides, and smaller ones aswel wont always give you the gap, and even when the gap does prevent itself your depending on Giroud being clinical enough to take the chance, and he is not clinical.
