But we simply don't have the same quality all over the pitch or at least in 2 areas that could've made the difference: 1) The strikers: I like all 3 of our player but Giroud for all his build up play, physical presence & occasional wonder goal but he is not a 30 goals / season striker a ruthless guy that will bury that one occasion.
Watching how quickly he reached 20 goals with AM and seeing him finish regularly over seasons gone by i can assume he would be a quality player for Arsenal and give great competition with Giroud.
Giroud misses more than he hits, Walcott has NEVER delivered his expected talent, Welbeck will NEVER be the striker to score 20 goals a season Coqellin will NOT go a whole season injury or suspension free, Sanchez and Ozil WILL have down period during the season, all teams have these problems to a greater or lesser degree but most of the top teams will address these problems and players either inprove or are sold and replaced with better or at least more consistant players, NOT Wenger he keeps doing the same thing over and over with the same players and he expects a different result but gets the same outvome time and time again, yet its ALWAYS someone else's fault be it the Ref or the linesman or the opposition or bad luck or whatever and whoever and its NEVER the fact that HE has done nothing to change the situation and LOOKS LIKELY to not change it next time around.

wenger is a legend in his own mind so other peoples opinions... fans, ex players, journalists, etc... have no bearing on his greatness or the righteousness of his own decisions... from end of last season it was clear we needed two quality attacking options to put up a serious challenge (getting rid of walcott and campbell or ox and bringing in a serious upgrade over giroud) instead he brought in another midfield option (having done the same in the winter window) which only makes sense in his own delusional world rather than the reality of facing up to serious and strengthening competitors and which defines the job at hand....
I've always maintained my stance that Arsene Wenger loves French players in his team than any other players. No matter how average you are once you're French and once you're in the first team he tends to give you so many chances to prove yourself.I can start mentioning them if you want me to but I know you know them.If Lucas Perez was French he wouldn't have been out so early believe me.I just don't know where to begin. Was Giroud bought to become a super sub or to be the leading striker?Having giving us many sesons of failure people are now content with him being a so called super sub.A player like Giroud is not built for that kind of role.He ws a super sub in 99 % of those matches because he was not played when he was supposed to and we needed presence in the air.The funny thing is people are using only this season to label him as a super sub. There were so many matched that Wenger should have started Giroud but for some reason didn't start him.I only see Arsenal as the top club who'd be crying over Giroud. If a good offer comes we should sell.
So if we go and spend 25 - 40 mil, it looks like we get a player that is hardly an upgrade over Giroud or even not an upgrade at all.
Giroud is a good player and I do like him but I also recognize that Giroud doesn't move as well as Theo into the channels and as such the box always gets over crowded when the rest of the team try to play as well.
Want to hear from all those arse licking football idiots drooling away on this website over a bunch of friendly victories... So I'll say it again mert is a liability Ramsey and giroud are good bench players and we need a world class dm... Oh and a new manager... Endlessly playing out of position... Same shit year in year out with this guy it really is... Even if we win if this guy thinks he has a winning team he is even more dillusional than I though and I wanted him carried off to funny farm 5 years ago

Regardless of peoles opinions on Vardy and his suitability with us he has scored more goals that our so called striker It will be interesting to see what happens over the Euro's as France are a very strong team and if Giroud is leading the line and they do well, it could prompt other sied to look at him in a different light Wenger as usual will sit on his hands until the last days of the window now he has brought on one player Forgey Mihkatarin we wont be getting himdespite the fact he likes us Wenger WONT like his price tag
Trouble is we are already too many players over for the epl and CL quotas, so at least one has to make way just for giroud.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is remaining relatively coy over the situation regarding Olivier Giroud, with Le Prof maintaining that Giroud will be an important player for the Gunners once he gets back to full fitness.
Up front we have a few world - class players surrounded by some serious pretenders... Sanchez is by far the most accomplished player in our attack but the controversy surrounding his contractual mishandling could see him go before the window closes or most definitely by season's end... obviously a mistake by both parties involved, as Sanchez's exploits have never been more on display than in North London, but the club's irresponsible wage structure and lack of real intent have been the real undoing in this mess... Lacazette, who I think has some world - class skills as a front man, will only be as good as the players and system around him, which is troubling due to our current roster and Wenger's love of sideways passing... Walcott should have been sold years ago, enough said, and Welbeck should never have been brought in from the get - go... both of these players have suffered numerous injuries over their respective careers and neither are good enough to overcome such difficulties: not to mention, they both are below average first - touch players, which should be the baseline test for any player coming to a Wenger - led Arsenal team... Perez should have been played wide left or never purchased at all; what a huge waste of time and money, which is ridiculous considering our penny pinching ways and the fact that fans had been clamoring for a real striker for years... finally Giroud, the fact that he stills wears the jersey is a direct indictment of this club's failure to get things right... this isn't necessarily an attack on Giroud because I think he has some highly valued skills, but not for a team that has struggled to take their sideways soccer to the next level, as his presence slows their game even more, combined with our average, at best, finishing skills... far too often those in charge have either settled or chosen half - measures and ultimately it is us that suffer because no matter what happens Wenger, Gazidis and Kroenke will always make more money whereas we will always be the ones paying for their mistakes... so every time someone suggests we should just shut - up and support the team just think of all the sacrifices you've made along the way and simply reply... f *** off
The sad truth is that we are just a couple of players away from having a very strong starting 11... Wenger's fixation with Walcott and mertesakher as starting players remains a mystery to me... neither have the quality of a top team like arsenal... I am not a giroud hater but he is still too inconsistent and the big question is whether welbeck can push him in a way Walcott won't... Campbell has done well and has moved ahead of Walcott and, ox for sure but there is still a question about how much more he can improve... Elneny is certainly an upgrade over arteta and flamini whether he will make it I don't know just hope that he does but arguably wenger could have been more ambitious... That leaves a top quality striking option... There is no doubt that wenger deluded himself over the summer and that needs to be corrected ASAP... Draxler dybala aube and even griezman with a big enough big could have been prized in summer... january not a good time for this but it is not difficult to find better options than Walcott ox or Campbell... All a question of whether wenger wants to win EPL on his terms or wants to win this for the club
After seeing a couple of games where he featured and also the one for england he's got it all for me... 1) He has the physical ability to offer the kind of game that our Giroud offers (back to the net: deflecting, relaying passes and 1 - 2 touches) but also 2) Pace, mobility and technical agility to offer so much more: dribbling past opponents (creating space), running / turning over defences either to lay down the killing pass to a better placed player or finishing a through ball from our over talented midfield and all that with speed and 3) Tactical awareness, willingness to defend players if asked (like the game Man U-Real Madrid in the CL) and could provide support not only in the air on corners!!
Under 23 players look good and many now getting a run out in first team So we are in transition finally rather than papering over the cracks If we get either Malcolm or Auba then its been a good window with new and younger players coming in for Sanchez Waclott and Giroud
The players who should be sold to man city should be Mertesacker, Joel Campbell, Giroud, Welbeck, Jenkinson, Debuchy, Ospina and the like. These are players I don't rate and will not continue to rate no matter what happens as unlike some I don't change my mind over one game or over one tournament but I judge them after a season or after long period weighing their effect.I however rate Chamberlain, Wilshere, Ramsey and the like as I think if not for injuries they would all have been world class. As a result they should also be sold to better teams who can relieve them of this curse and help them fulfill their potential so as to save them from ungrateful fans and keep mouths shut.
But that's about it, a very over rated player, I prefer Giroud in all honesty.

Alexis is easily one of our best players, it must annoy him to see the manager take him off over Giroud, even though he has something like six in seven now.
for 3 years we've needed a striker and a stong CDM all the pundits say is arsenal need a top striker and a cdm to anchor the team and bring strenth to our team which is true and 3 years later and the same problems if we brought in a player like calvarho and a good striker and right now i know we'd all take Balotelli or remy over giroud we'd be a great team and it's been that way for such a long time now i just don't see why we add these two keey pieces....
Now I know many will have superstar players ready to ink in on the team sheet over the names of Giroud and Coquelin but I would like to pose the following question.
It's obvious for me that arsenal need 4 players to become a world class team like bayern and real madrid i couldn't dare mention barcelona because they have unbelievable front three and they maybe the best attack in history of football we are lacking quality in the ST as well as the RW of course giroud and campvell are very good players but in my opinion they are less in quality than the rest of the team so we need to improve the quality in these positins About the DM it's a number issue and i think the position is covered with flamini doing good job and elneny coming which can be deployed there About the fourth signing we need is a center back I don't think i saw till now enough minutes for gabriel to tell if he can make the position his own or not But what makes me doubt him that wenger didn't choose him till now over per which means he is not miles ahead of him so i think we need a new better CB This team can go and fight for every thing even the champions leafue....
This is an incredibly difficult question to answer for a variety of reasons, most importantly because over the years our once vaunted «beautiful» style of play has become a shadow of it's former self, only to be replaced by a less than stellar «plug and play» mentality where players play out of position and adjustments / substitutions are rarely forthcoming before the 75th minute... if you look at our current players, very few would make sense in the traditional Wengerian system... at present, we don't have the personnel to move the ball quickly from deep - lying position, efficient one touch midfielders that can make the necessary through balls or the disciplined and pacey forwards to stretch defences into wide positions, without the aid of the backs coming up into the final 3rd, so that we can attack the defensive lanes in the same clinical fashion we did years ago... on this current squad, we have only 1 central defender on staf, Mustafi, who seems to have any prowess in the offensive zone or who can even pass two zones through so that we can advance play quickly out of our own end (I have seen some inklings that suggest Holding might have some offensive qualities but too early to tell)... unfortunately Mustafi has a tendency to get himself in trouble when he gets overly aggressive on the ball... from our backs out wide, we've seen pace from the likes of Bellerin and Gibbs and the spirited albeit offensively stunted play of Monreal, but none of these players possess the skill - set required in the offensive zone for the new Wenger scheme which requires deft touches, timely runs to the baseline and consistent crossing, especially when Giroud was playing and his ratio of scored goals per clear chances was relatively low (better last year though)... obviously I like Bellerin's future prospects, as you can't teach pace, but I do worry that he regressed last season, which was obvious to Wenger because there was no way he would have used Ox as the right side wing - back so often knowing that Barcelona could come calling in the off - season, if he thought otherwise... as for our midfielders, not a single one, minus the more confident Xhaka I watched played for the Swiss national team a couple years ago, who truly makes sense under the traditional Wenger model... Ramsey holds onto the ball too long, gives the ball away cheaply far too often and abandons his defensive responsibilities on a regular basis (doesn't score enough recently to justify): that being said, I've always thought he does possess a little something special, unfortunately he thinks so too... Xhaka is a little too slow to ever boss the midfield and he tends to telegraph his one true strength, his long ball play: although I must admit he did get a bit better during some points in the latter part of last season... it always made me wonder why whenever he played with Coq Wenger always seemed to play Francis in a more advanced role on the pitch... as for Coq, he is way too reckless at the wrong times and has exhibited little offensive prowess yet finds himself in and around the box far too often... let's face it Wenger was ready to throw him in the trash heap when injuries forced him to use Francis and then he had the nerve to act like this was all part of a bigger Wenger constructed plan... he like Ramsey, Xhaka and Elneny don't offer the skills necessary to satisfy the quick transitory nature of our old offensive scheme or the stout defensive mindset needed to protect the defensive zone so that our offensive players can remain aggressive in the final third... on the front end, we have Ozil, a player of immense skill but stunted by his physical demeanor that tends to offend, the fact that he's been played out of position far too many times since arriving and that the players in front of him, minus Sanchez, make little to no sense considering what he has to offer (especially Giroud); just think about the quick counter-attack offence in Real or the space and protection he receives in the German National team's midfield, where teams couldn't afford to focus too heavily on one individual... this player was a passing «specialist» long before he arrived in North London, so only an arrogant or ignorant individual would try to reinvent the wheel and / or not surround such a talent with the necessary components... in regards to Ox, Walcott and Welbeck, although they all possess serious talents I see them in large part as headless chickens who are on the injury table too much, lack the necessary first - touch and / or lack the finishing flair to warrant their inclusion in a regular starting eleven; I would say that, of the 3, Ox showed the most upside once we went to a back 3, but even he became a bit too consumed by his pending contract talks before the season ended and that concerned me a bit... if I had to choose one of those 3 players to stay on it would be Ox due to his potential as a plausible alternative to Bellerin in that wing - back position should we continue to use that formation... in Sanchez, we get one of the most committed skill players we've seen on this squad for some years but that could all change soon, if it hasn't already of course... strangely enough, even he doesn't make sense given the constructs of the original Wenger offensive model because he holds onto the ball too long and he will give the ball up a little too often in the offensive zone... a fact that is largely forgotten due to his infectious energy and the fact that the numbers he has achieved seem to justify the means... finally, and in many ways most crucially, Giroud, there is nothing about this team or the offensive system that Wenger has traditionally employed that would even suggest such a player would make sense as a starter... too slow, too inefficient and way too easily dispossessed... once again, I think he has some special skills and, at times, has showed some world - class qualities but he's lack of mobility is an albatross around the necks of our offence... so when you ask who would be our best starting 11, I don't have a clue because of the 5 or 6 players that truly deserve a place in this side, 1 just arrived, 3 aren't under contract beyond 2018 and the other was just sold to Juve... man, this is theraputic because following this team is like an addiction to heroin without the benefits
I love the Giroud that closes down players and the GK and stops falling over light tackles, when he has fear of losing his spot he does run more and use his strength better, Theo replacing him is a real threat.
if you watch arsenal place I see so much space and no runs no runs at all only when in the box if you watch Leicester they are always makeing runs all over the place that's how you score goals against a team like Southampton they controlled the game it was not unlucky just like chelsea can do control the game and won arsenal players don't believe they can win the title the players in that team play without heart you know why because Im sure wenger tells them becareful we don't need anymore Injurys what kind of mentality is that also I will pick out Ramsey he is playing like a player who is leaveing the club he and flamini just don't work Ramsey is not playing good at all wenger can blame make excuses but truth is he is the manager he make the tactics and he gets it wrong all the time giroud has no pace none bench him against some teams and play pure pace make runs ox Walcott but they don't Walcott has lost it his pace has gone its clear or he fears I jury how if a player is fit put your all in forget injury if you get Injured then so be it but if your fit and your Walcott run put yourself about wenger should leave because he.
It's easier and cheaper in terms of an overall wage turnover, to keep Chamberlain, Walcott, Ramsey, Iwobi, Giroud et al as they've got players happy at the exposure of playing for Arsenal, won't create a fuss over money or conditions.
I rate Perez very highly but Wenger is comfortable with Giroud and does nt want to give up on his project Welbeck injury prone chance over other players.
I mean Christ Danny Welbeck was let go for just slightly less than lucas Perez and Wenger wasn't even in the country when he was bought in, what does that tell you about the club and its ambitions????? if you added up the money spent on oriental and Japanese players who we NEVER see play in an arsenal shirt over the last ten years, we could have brought in half the Barcelona side including Messi so you tell me what THATS all about??? its a disgrace, and Giroud acting like a football god because he scored and equalizer really just epitomises the whole messed up attitude and THAT starts with Wenger and his «its not my fault it was the ref» attitude its stinks
Hey SoOpa AeoN you got a cool but yoy don't talk cool at all along with rkw.I didn't like the way Chicarito's name was rubbed in the mad and what pains me is that you all think Giroud is better. The fact that you are a team reject does not mean you aren't good enough or can't be world class.Do you want me to name a few rejects who have become world class or have come back to haunt their teams. If I was to choose between sticking with Giroud or Chicarito for thousand years we all know who people would go for.The over hyped average players in our club is unbelievable and it's just sad.The club is also over hyped at times and we feel like we are so so big. It's a shame. The mentality of this club is so so bad and trust me with this characters success will be far away for centuries to come.
The Gunners currently have huge question marks over the futures of a number of key players, with Jack Wilshere, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Olivier Giroud all strongly linked with moves away from the club.
tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps in this petty pace from day to day to the last syllable of endless gallic bullshit....4 th place junkies wetting themselves over 3rd place finish should realise that other teams will be strengthening in summer definitely the others in top 4 and always a surprise or two outside... wenger has f @@@@@ us over for ten years now selling top players and bringing in a string of jokers... yes that changed with ozil and sanchez... but giroud coquelin and monreal while all decent and can help us to another 4th place but not beyond that (coquelin could still be a top class player but ai nt there yet) walcott and podolski will never deliver and merteshaker would not be in any other top 15 team in europe... so the idea that the squad is on the cusp of greatness is moronic and confirmed by end of season performance... we need four quality signings but i would settle for two (attacker plus DM) and an upgrade (left back)..
Wilshire would run Ramsey close and Walcott would run giroud close but there is not a lot to choose between them, more over they are different type of players.
Don't kid yourself there.Giroud is not the one benching Lacazette in France National team. It's Griezmann.Giroud is also an average player. It's just good service which is making him look good.If he was in any of the smaller clubs it's not like we'd be wishing to sign him.Lacazette is exponentially a better player than Giroud. He just needs time and I hope he doesn't share it with Giroud just like the way Giroud had his time. He's been average over the past seasons yet fans would bring up stats defending him while calling Walcott who has the same impressive stats as average.Isn't it a disgrace for Walcott to start over you in CF?If Arsenal were serious we wpuld've sold Giroud and Welbeck then used the money to get reliable back ups who are not inconsistent.
Yes Giroud did block Verratti originally, but when he stood up he was pushed from behind by Marquinhos, towards the back of Verratti, but there was no contact at all and the PSG man just through himself to the ground, causing the referee to stop the game and come over to deal with the situation, which resulted in both players being sent off.
anything over 25 mil for a player with similar stats to Giroud is RIDICULOUS.
Giroud is an average player to be honest.I never rated him ever since he came to arsenal.i will play Chuba Akpom over him not even because of his hattrick.but its because i believe he is better than Giroud and Welbeck.I hope Wenger does not also make the mistake of selling Szczesny just because he is error prone. He better sell Ospina or he will regret it one day i said it here first.
So Arsenal have mediocre players Sanogo Diaby Rosicky Coquelin Arteta Flamini Monreal Mertesacker Giroud Wellbeck Podolski Campbell or over rated «potential» Wilshere Walcott Gibbs Ramsey Jenkinson Apart from Ozil and Sanchez 16 mill is our max outlay on a player and most are on under 90 k some on 50 — 60 k.
Caroll had his 1 in 10 great game and it happened to be against us Welbeck was a little poor today Iwobi was not bad but West Ham hounded him and he struggled on occasions Sanchez can be stressful to watch sometimes, he needs to learn how to pass quicker and better and needs to learn to use his left foot Belerin is great but needs to learn to cross as his high crosses are just floaters, which are really easy to defend and very hard to attack Giroud bought some solidity that we needed Ramsey was ok, Walcott was his usual «meh» Hoping that the Arsenal players work on their weaknesses over the rest of this season and over the summer.

If the player's safety is that important to the public, why is there no furor over Olivier Giroud's head injury in Arsenal's first game against West Ham?
As well as the chance for our players to have a little rest, even those heading off with their countries, the break gives the likes of Coquelin and Giroud the chance to get over their injury problems, so Arsene Wenger should have an almost complete squad to choose from when Arsenal take on Swansea City in just under two weeks.
Then people come hear and talk about his valuation and tell me he is over performing.Tell me for how much we bought some of Arsenal greatest players before you can and say that. The guy is so terrible I don't even know what to say anymore.I'm just speechless so I won't go further.Vardy snubbing Arsenal has completely nothing to do with Wenger keep Giroud.
Wenger likes technical players but Giroud is a donkey, judging by his goal against Sweden (which was lucky) he doesn't know how to get his foot over the ball when he shoots.
