The Office of
Postdoctoral and Graduate Affairs (OPGA) works to ensure that

I first heard of
Gladstone when I crossed over the pond from London, England, to take up
postdoctoral research in cancer biology at the University of California, San Francisco.
«Scientists have tried for decades to treat heart failure by transplanting adult heart cells, but these cells can not reproduce themselves, and so they do not survive in the damaged heart,» explained Yu Zhang, MD, PhD, lead author on the study and a
postdoctoral scholar at the
Gladstone Institutes.
«Two months post-transplantation, we noticed a boost in human liver protein levels, an indication the transplanted cells were becoming mature,» says Saiyong Zhu, PhD, a
Postdoctoral Scholar at
Gladstone and the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine who was among the study's lead authors.
Dr. Yamanaka, who did his
postdoctoral training at
Gladstone in the 1990s, also directs the Center for iPS Cell Research and Application (CiRA), and is a principal investigator at the Institute for Integrated Cell - Material Sciences (iCeMS)-- both located at Japan's Kyoto University.
