Under the guidance of Professor Fernando Reimers, I aspire to implement
the Global Citizenship Curriculum through the «The World Course» in public and low - cost private schools in India, a setting I'm most familiar with.

From this starting point, there exist different approaches to developing this
global awareness, such as: 1)
curriculum design which embraces themes of awareness, empathy and a more holistic educational approach; 2) the use of technology that fosters connections between classrooms and destinations around the world; 3) social action projects that use service - based learning to create a deeper awareness of
global issues; and 4) extra-curricular projects that offer a variety of tools to promote
global citizenship.
In the meantime, there is increasing recognition in the policy making community that the
global dimension of the educational process is essential to its relevance and that issues of world development, interdependence and solidarity are inherent to any
curriculum for
citizenship education in a
global society.
There exist four major ways to develop
global awareness within the international schools: 1)

global citizenship.
Working with educators, we are updating the
curriculum and assessment practices for the teaching of the
global competencies that are necessary for the current and future economy, such as critical thinking, problem solving, innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship, self - direction, collaboration, communication,
global citizenship, and sustainability.
«There were some very practical outcomes such as changes in practice, accompanied by developing tangible «products»... these included a real and accepted definition of
global citizenship, new student reports and assessment tools for
global citizenship, enhanced use of technology for
curriculum mapping, a more
global and accessible library collection, just to name a few.
Thematic units in the
curriculum address a wide range of topics, including advertising and public relations, representations of gender, violence, and race in the media, the role of the media in
global citizenship, and new converging technologies.

Participating teachers reported that the resources engaged pupils and were a good fit with the
curriculum, with primary school teachers using them within science, geography, PSE and
global citizenship lessons and stating that they provided a good opportunity to develop numeracy and literacy skills and encouraged group work and class discussion.

For these reasons Trinity offers a rigorous yet flexible
curriculum enhanced with a wide range of interdisciplinary programs and special opportunities, all of which are designed to provide real world experiences, increase international exposure and understanding, and instill the values required for
global citizenship and making a difference.

Rethinking the social studies
curriculum in the context of globalization: Education for
global citizenship in the US.
The school follows a unique interdisciplinary
curriculum with a strong emphasis on world cultures and
global citizenship.
Global Citizenship Education forms an important part of the Ethical Education
Curriculum, a unique subject in Educate Together schools.
The pain of the race riots of the mid 1960s probably shaped some of the education policies to foster racial inclusion and tolerance, and those memories are likely at the root of some of the current emphasis of the
curriculum on the development of cross-cultural competence and
global citizenship.
OneWorld Classrooms» mission is to foster
global awareness and cross-cultural understanding in the context of the K - 12
curriculum to prepare young people for local and
global citizenship in culturally diverse settings.
Concordia offers an MEd in
Curriculum & Instruction with a concentration in Social Studies (K - 14), Core requirements include Historical Thinking, The Social Studies Toolkit,
Global Citizenship: Teaching for an Interconnected World, Project - Based Learning and K - 14 Social Studies, and Educational Research.
In 2013, program participant Carl Andersen developed a
curriculum on
global citizenship for his eighth grade language arts class, using the work of ART21 featured - artists to explore what it means to be a responsible
global citizen, and to exist responsibly in terms of self, community, and society.
This
curriculum includes lessons that are suitable for Canadian high school classes that address local and
global citizenship, leadership, environmental and
global issues.
