They fail to distinguish two types of religious
persons who may be part of this group: the first, who depend completely upon the literal interpretation of Scripture and tradition by an authoritarian pastor, and second, those who undertake
rescue activity as the command of
God, based upon a thoughtful and self - ratified interpretation of the ethical imperatives of the gospel.
The building of the local hospital, the ambulance that got me there before I died from blood loss, the image of
God in the paramedics that made them give their lives to
rescuing people they've never met, the wisdom of the surgeon, the intelligence and skill of the thousands of individuals whose discoveries have made operating theatres and anaesthesia possible — all of these are gracious gifts of a loving

Here again, just as with the flood, before the destruction with fire comes,
God will work to
rescue, redeem, and deliver as many
people as possible.
It seems that when the whole counsel of Scripture is considered,
God's activity in the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah amounted to simply allowing them to suffer the consequences of their own sinful rebellion, while taking what steps He could to warn,
rescue, and deliver as many
people as possible from the fire and brimstone.
In other words, if all that
God could do in the flood event was
rescue as many
people as possible from the waters when they threatened to take the life of everything that breathes, how can
God guarantee that humanity will never be so sinful as to invite the same destruction upon their heads again?
