Grand Cenote, Calavera, and Carwash are the most famous but be warned, you have to navigate caves and passages to get to some of the cenotes, which can be a claustrophobic experience for some.

The Grand Cenote (about a 5 min drive west of Tulum), is a fantastic place to start.
I liked
Grand Cenote better because there was more light and a few different areas for newbies to explore.
Grand Cenote in Tulum, Cenote X'Keken in Valladolid, Suytun Cenote outside Valladolid, and Ik Kil near the famous Chichen Itza; Ik Kil draws lots of tourists as early as 9 - 10 am, so get there in the early morning to avoid crowds!
Cenote Azul lies about a mile from Puerto Aventuras and
Grand Cenotes about 20 minutes.
