The beloved pastry chef of San Francisco's State Bird Provisions maintains a pared - down menu of only four rotating items: a
granita, a cake or tart, a pudding and an
ice cream sandwich.
It struck me as I was photographing the
granita that the shards of
ice crystals kinda sorta look like grated carrots.
Make some refreshing cocktails and serve them in large mason jars or pitchers with colorful straws such as fruity mojitos, frozen fruit
granitas, fruit punch,
iced tea or lemonade made with lots of fresh fruit,
ice, soda, lemon or fresh herbs to cool off the heat and make the party more fun!

Consider this recipe a three - for - one: You can make as directed for a hot or
iced tea; or, you can make a frozen
granita by increasing the agave nectar to 1/4 cup, then straining the finished tea, adding 1/4 cup chopped mint, and freezing in a shallow dish.
Repeat this stirring process two or three times, or until the
granita has an even consistency of small
ice crystals; it should be grainy but not mushy.
