Mike Whiting received his MFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY in May of 2002, and has since developed a substantial profile as a contemporary artist of our times through his solo exhibitions at Plus Gallery, numerous group exhibitions across the US, and a number of monumental outdoor works commissioned for entities across the US, including Denver's iconic «Rhino» sculpture at the intersection of Larimer and Broadway.

The four artists selected to participate in this group collaborative exhibition project, Chris Johanson (USA), Camilla Løw (Norway), Mary Redmond (UK) and Corin Sworn (Canada / UK), will make sculptural works designed to be played with by both children and adults in an outdoor environment.

The group outdoor sculpture exhibition includes works by Kevin Barrett, Joel Perlman, Michael Enn Sirvet, Wendy Lehman and more.
These include «Column Piece» (1971), last shown in a group exhibition at LoGiudice Gallery in 1972 - 73; the outdoor work «Something in the Wind,» first shown in 1975 when Ms. Morton rigged a series of flags on the Lettie G. Howard ship, docked at the South Street Seaport; and an element from «Regarding Landscape» (1976), a painting of a boulder that was installed atop a boulder.
Noted for their touring outdoor exhibitions, the group employed a variety of unusual materials in their works, such as stones, waxed fabric, carboard and rope, and the works themselves were often folded, crushed, burned or dyed and exhibited on the floor or hung without a frame.
Opening June 30, a new group of outdoor sculptures will grace City Hall Park in Lower Manhattan in an exhibition titled «Image Objects.»
